Iron Man was fun, but i'd never call it epic; it was concentrated Americanized fun for sure, and in great amounts, but just that. The score is plain awful, and an orchestral approach a la Silvestri could have worked wonders instead.

    THE HANGOVER

A bunch of idiots who're bored with their lives and bitch (or non-existent) girlfriends go to Las Vegas for a friend's bachelor party and end up getting high on a particularly heavy and completely dangerous drug that was sold to them supposedly as ecstasy, thus smashing up the hotel's room (among everything else in Vegas), a completely messy last-night wedding with a stripper, a missing tooth, a missing friend and some other various comedic situations without really remembering what really happened. Was fun, gave a few laughs but can't understand what's the big fuss about this movie.....every american teenager's secret lil dream i guess?

The clips that Erik put together really do show how much film music has gone down the toilet recently. That scene is immediately more exciting with some banging Silvestri tunes. wink

    Enough.... sleep

    ADVENTURELAND

An adult look to a group ot teenagers during one summer of their lives, while working in an amusement park (hence the title of the film). No gross jokes, no eschacatological lines, no "bathroom" dialogues......in short, fresh air regarding this kind of productions. The fact that the film is set in 1987 is another wise move, providing the story with the appropriate sense of nostalgia.

Very good performances from the main and supporting actors (is it possible it is the same actress starring in Twilight? Unbeliabable), great musical selection,....totally recommended.

Just saw Michael Moore's SICKO, another brilliant film of his about the problems regarding healthcare and how it affects the people who need help but just can't afford it because of ludicrous high cost and requirements to get insured. Again the movie is every bit as enjoyable and shocking as his earlier films. I loved how he tried to take the group of sick people to Guantanamo prison, about the only place in the U.S. that provides free healthcare for ... terrorists. shocked

Basically this is about as anti-american you can make a documentary. I think there is something really wrong with the whole system there, which seems to exist to make big money and help the least amount of sick people. That fact totally floored me !!!!

How exactly does it work? 'Cause i am wondering whether we saw a different movie after all, another cut or something; the one i saw had a horrendous noisy score that sounded like an amateur teenage metal band rehearsing in the garage, drowning all the scenes.

  2. Just finished watching about an hour ago "Van Wlder (3): Freshmen Year", since I enjoyed the first film.

Came in with low expectations. I have to say ... this is actually one of the better sequel films I have ever seen, in fact -- it's a prequel.

The story? The plot? Nothing remarkable, nothing deep or involving, but still fun enough. The first half of the film had some legitimately good laughs. Couple parts of the film went overboard, and I felt the second half of the film was not as good as the first half, but still okay to watch -- especially for free on TV.
The acting was pretty standard (were we expecting award winning?) and one character ws a terrible stereotype who seemed to serve no purpose what-so-ever.

Nathan Wang's score was servicable and sparce (a number of songs used). A little mickey mousing at times, but I definitively got the feeling he's capable of more. If there were ever a "Sgt. Bilko 2" and Silvestri was not available, I'd pick Wang.

Desperately unfunny. I remembered while watching that I had previously vowed not to watch any more Dreamworks animations. Wish I had remembered beforehand.

Well the movie isn't the most subtle of films out there, so I don't think a noisy score is inherently a bad thing. I agree with those who say it works, but I also agree that it doesn't work nearly as well as it should have. It's just a mindbogglingly mediocre score and certainly doesn't deserve even 1% of the attention it has received (though evidently an unavoidable consequence under the circumstances). I also don't think it deserves the scorn it often gets, it's not as though Djawadi clubbed baby seals while he recorded this score.

One of the most irritating things with being a curmudgeonly film music fan is that a lot of the time, even the most hideous musical creations "work", in that they don't make the film any worse. Iron Man is such an example. It could and should have had so much more, though.

    Harper's Island

Already run its course in the US (and not renewed for a second series), just started over here. An intriguing premise - a thirteen-part whodunnit, with people being bumped off in every episode. After the first couple, I'm pretty hooked. It doesn't hurt that it's populated by an extraordinary collection of beautiful people.

    Passenger 57

I had great weekend. I like this action flick, very cool and one of the best 90's action film. Wesley snipes was good.

    Peter Pan

This is one of my favorite fantasy films. Only one thing, i couldn't understand that even in this modern world, why these filmmakers could not come up with some realistic visual effects in movies? In Peter Pan, most of the them looks plastics and sets, nothing looks real. However, with good casting and excellent score saved the movie. I was quite delighted with brilliant score by James Newton Howard.

    Independence Day

Will Smith steals the show all way. I wonder what if Will smith wasn't in this film, i believe it would have been awful. However, the movie was typical Roland Emmerich movie but i admire visual effects and sound effects. I like score very much.

    Jurassic Park.

This is absolutely masterpiece by Steven Spielberg. John Williams score is another gem in the movie. In fact, i don't have to tell anything about this movie. Classic!

    Shanghai Knights

This is great action comedy flick. Jackie Chan - Owen Wilson combination works again very well. Score was really good.

5 movies over the weekend and none involving any nudity? shocked Star Movies/HBO?

    Saw last night...

    Antonia's Line

Simply delightful! Awash with numerous characters, we get a glimpse into the life of a matriarch and her long family line. Witty and touching. The score by Ilona Sekacz is like the thread that binds them all with the quirkiness and nostalgia laden folk/semi-classical stylings. Bravo!

Finally! Someone who agrees with me. Give me five!!! punk

God, I know it´s not a good listen on CD (for some), BUT in the movie, it does exactly what it´s supposed to do. Bring on Mr.Cool, Mr.I-have-all-the-money-in-the-world-and-I-know-what-to-do-with-it-so-where´s-that-chick?-Downey Jr. And listen carefully how all this is turned on its backside, slowly, VERY slowly. But it´s frakkin´ there!

Oh! i have forgotten, there was nudity in movies like JP and ID4, in JP, all dinosaurs were naked, no costumes for them. biggrin and in ID4, scientists stripped aliens naked. So, how can you say there was no nudity involved in those five movies? biggrin biggrin

I really enjoyed the whole season. Not specially original (not that it intends/needs to be) but pretty addictive. This formula of one dead (or more) per episode is pretty entertaining, as you try to guess who´s next. As it comes to the end, deaths are more dramatic, specially two of them in one of the last episodes.

A good 13 episode show. I never saw the need for a second season, so it´s perfect IMO that it was cancelled.

Do you write your own material, or do you have a team hard at work for you? I'm very curious.

Of course, i write my own material. But one thing i don't understand that are you seriously asking this question or just deliberately making attempt to make fun of me? Frankly speaking, you don't need a team to deliver timing jokes. wink biggrin

I was brought up like that. Many times my friends told me that i should try to enter cinema because they believe i could be best comedian in movies. biggrin You know sometimes, i will land in trouble because of too much sense of humor that i possess, for e.g take MT members, most of them still not able to understand my fun nature. That's quite pitiable stage. Hmmm.... only time will reveal my true nature to MT members. biggrin biggrin

An OK film. It's nice to get a film every once in a while that is so focused on music. smile And it's also cool to know that it's a true story.
