As I mature I'm finding that my attention span is getting shorter and shorter - and consequently I'm looking for more and more out my film music. I need something memorable, something that may be playing in the background and halt me in my tracks (at least every once in a while.)

Frizzell's Whiteout isn't a score that's going to grab my attention very often. Yes, there are moments that do stand out if you're giving this CD your undivided attention - I do particularly like it when there's the electric cello Jon Broxton mentions in his already-linked review. But the interesting stuff is buried in amongst music that probably serves the film very well.

I'd say this is average generic action scoring (with atmospheric passages as well) that's commonplace at the moment.

Of the two scores cited previously as "recent purchases", Nathan Barr's True Blood is much more interesting - and memorable.

Whiteout bored me too. True blood has some very interesting moments in it, except for when the irish / americana moments begin and bore the hell out of me, making me skipping tracks and such.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  1. Indy Box Set.

I didn't have the soundtracks in any version, so I bought it without hesitation. And yes, I did hear the whole Desert Chase before.

Can you not just buy it from your usual download store?

    For example, Amazon.co.uk:

Oh my! I didn't realize that some of the French MP3 are also available in Amazon's UK store. Yes, that certainly is the best way for folks in the UK to purchase it. It's a great deal!

Just now, i went to music stores and i never thought big surprise would be awaiting for me. Yes, at last, i bought Harry Potter and Half Blood Prince by Nicholas Hooper. I am yet to listen to complete album, but i am so excited and delighted with this purchase. I liked the score very much in film but very soon i discover how it works in CD album.

Good score indeed. A good opportunity for Newman to flesh out both his quirky and his melodic ideas. Superb stuff IMO.

One of the last REALLY good scores by Newman in the recent years so far.

If you are already jealous, how would Bregt and Thomas feel? It hurts to see them take so little interest in their own scores! I should keep on trying!

Just ordered Mao's Last Dancer from CDWow and Fantastic Mr Fox from Amazon.

My SAE order containing Baaria, 5 Man Army and House of Cards shipped yesterday.

My SAE order of many weeks ago containing Rent-a-Cop, Last Embrace, China Syndrome and Allonsanfan is yet to ship. No idea why, since all the items appeared to be in stock.

My Varese Club order of Escape from the Planet of the Apes, A Walk in the Spring Rain and Crime in the Streets shipped the other day.

I don't suppose I'll see any of these this side of Christmas, but still.
  7. I just got Waterworld (JNH), which I'm pretty excited about. I've wanted this one for a while, but it's always been pretty pricey on the used market. I bumped into it online recently and it seems to have come down in price a little.

    I also just got...
    The New World (Horner)
    PotC: AWE (Zimmer)
    Children of Dune (Tyler)

Pretty mainstream scores, but I'm kind of excited as I haven't bought a soundtrack since ST II first came out and I was starting to twitch involuntarily...

    Excellent choices, Christopher. smile

I haven't listened to Horner's New World, but all the rest including Waterworld are my favourites!
  8. The New World is lovely. I've heard it all the way through once before, and have wanted to buy it ever since.
