  1. Speed 2 will always struggle to compete with the far superior first film. But I do like the music from the sequel when some of the original music is reused.

Not a bad haul for the first big order of 2011, one of the copies of Speed 2 is a birthday gift for a friend.

    Someone you don't like?

You did give it 3.5 stars, so it can't be THAT bad. wink

Indeed. Opportunities to use that joke don't come around often enough though, so I have to take them when I can.

Agreed. The cd did cost me quite a bit of money (11 euros!). But it's worth it...

I didn't mean that Bob, it's just that Joep finds the most amazing bargains everywhere, and it seems that he has to pay normal prices once in a while too.

It amazes me to see how many score collectors are willing to purchase them for prices around 20 euros. No, I'd rather go for cheap, older works of quality. It saves a lot of pennies and helps me build up a large collection.

I'd guess around 1500. I try to update my excel sheet as much as I can, but enjoy doing a real count once in a while.
  6. Arrived today, Nathan Van Cleave's Robinson Crusoe On Mars and the Jerry Goldsmith/James Horner doubleheader from FSM.

The only other physical CD I am waiting for at the moment is Elmer Bernstein's Slipstream.

    Good news for the wallet.

I have not had a chance to listen to it yet. I like some of the composer's work on the original Twilight Zone so I am looking forward to hearing it.

Something I have listened to is James Horner's Rascals and Robbers and what a disorienting listen it is! There are numerous reminders of his Star Trek both in terms of orchestration and musical devices, mixed in with Americana influencies. Good stuff though.

Both this Horner score and Goldsmith's The Homecoming (a prototype for his later scores for The Waltons) have the right level of Americana I can enjoy. The Goldsmith score in particular is a great reminder of my TV childhood watching John-Boy, et al.

That's why I'm tempted Alan, because of the Twilight Zone scores. I haven't seen Robinson Crusoe On Mars since I was young and have no recollection of the score.

I'm taking a chance. I saw the film once ( and have no desire to again ) and vaguely recall being impressed by the score.

Do you recall any memorable themes?

I may be tempted to order it if you do. cool

Olivier Deriviere - Alone in the Dark
Camille Bazbaz - Hors de Prix
Dan Levy, Samuel Narboni, Luca de' Medici, Gregory Fougères, Pascal Morel & Olivia Bouyssou - L'Empire Des Loups
    Krishna Lévy - Je L'Amais

  10. Alone In The Dark is excellent. So might the others but I have not heard any of them.

I took advantage of Screen Archives' clearance sale and bought two MovieScore Media releases:

    Klimt
    The Rocket Post

I thought about buying some of the $5 Varese CDs, like Street Fighter and Freddy's Dead, but I haven't listened to enough clips to take the plunge.

  11. These just in: cheesy

    - The Wind and the Lion (Goldsmith) for Thomas
    - Tombstone (Broughton) - I had it on CDR for many years, now it's official. It's a good one.
    - Slipstream (Bernstein) - Looking forward to it, hope this is Bernstein at his most rousing.
    - Farewell to the King (Poledouris) - Heard it once a long time ago but it didn't click, maybe now it will.
    - The Homecoming / Rascals and Robbers (Goldsmith / Horner) - Bought this for the Horner mainly.

  12. From my perspective, a couple of good choices there. I'm hoping that you enjoy Slipstream - I certainly did when I first listened to it. And the Goldsmith/Horner disc is excellent. But, for me, I prefer Goldsmith's The Homecoming: I was brought up with this The Waltons-style Americana having watched The Waltons regularly. Although it doesn't have the familiar title theme there is much here that was used in the series (apparently).

    News at SoundtrackCollector
    Sounds Of The Times
24-Mar-2009 - Dutton Vocalion has released a very special compilation album, Sounds Of The Times. The twenty-five tracks on this CD are from a cross-section of albums issued during the heyday of the KPM recorded music library, along with a few choice cuts from the Conroy library's archives. They were - and in KPM's case still are - among the world's leading suppliers of pre-recorded ('library') music to the radio, film and TV industries. During the 1960s and '70s many of Britain's foremost arranger-composers, like Alan Hawkshaw, Christopher Gunning, David Lindup, John Cameron, John Scott, Keith Mansfield, and Johnny Pearson, to name a few, wrote for both companies, and some fine examples of their work from that period are featured here. The KPM material presented here is from the '1000' series, possibly the most successful and probably the most famous series of recordings in the history of library music. The styles range from orchestral and big band to rock and small group, but uniting them all are the funk rythms of the 70s.
The CD is available from Dutton Vocalion.

Looks at least for me to be an interesting release.
    Thomas

Wasn't sure where to put this so I did a search on "Keith Mansfield" and it came up with this.

Tim, I'm hoping that you in particular will see this and be interested in this find. Remember the YouTube video a few months back that featured live footage of Keith Mansfield and other playing the likes of Superstars and Dave Allen themes live? Well, it looks like there's actually a digital release of that gig:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Live-At-the-Jaz … mp;sr=1-94

Worth picking out a few tracks from this I fancy.
