The Sapphire & Steel Audio Adventures: Remember Me

Started on Halloween, I only finished this story last night, and it's one of the best in all three series.
Contrary to several episodes preceding this one, this one was actually quite scary (especially when listening to it alone in the night) and very clever in its use of Time as a weapon.

As you may or may not know, Sapphire and Steel are anthropomorphic agents of an unknown, supradimensional organization that guards the state of the Universe against the ravages of Time, which tries to undo the strands that make up existence by corrupting and damaging all its dimensions.
It started out as a short-lived but highly acclaimed TV series in the late seventies of the last century, starring Ilya Kuryakin and Purdey as respecively Steel and Sapphire and has recently been made into a series of audio dramas, starring the redoubtable chancellor Gorkon as Steel.

In this episode, Time's demonic agent attacks them by changing reality through the use of its ability to live in each memory. The implications are quite staggering: as each moment in (linear) life instantly transforms into a memory the next moment, its control is almost limitless.
To try and stop it, the measures taken are drastic...and dark.

Excellent, thought provoking, and unsettling stuff. The way I like my terror!

Good comparison. Yes, it is, though I've always found it more "mature" in its subject matter approach.
But yes, I'd say its comparable to Doctor Who at its best.

NP : SYMPHONY # 9 - Ralph Vaughan Williams



For me...utter bliss!

I'm listening to the Top 800 chart of songs from the eighties on a belgian radio station and it rocks, pure nostalgia for me. Some of the hits I've heard have been long forgotten.

Gotta love that remake version of "Go West" !

Yeah, but their version of "Always On My Mind", which is playing now, isn't that hot, to be honest.

Yeah...but I don't know, there's just something about their version that feels a bit...I don't know, "forced"? It could also be because I have fond memories of more acoustic versions of that song.

I liked Nothing Has Been Proved which was written as an end title song to the film Scandal ( damn good film too about the real life Profumo scandal in 1960's England ). I suspect the song you're thinking of Gilles is What Have I Done To Deserve This.

NP: Mahler: Symphony No. 5 (Live) - Gustav Mahler (New York Philharmonic & Lorin Maazel)

Just bought this. So far, it's excellent, the best recording of the Fifth I've ever owned. And Phil Smih rocks on the trumpet solo.

Arnold's Dances is a damn fine work Tom

When I hear mention of a composer named Arnold, David is not the first thing that comes to mind for me.

Me too! I've been listening to a lot of Vaughan Williams lately. His music has been de-stressing me from my workload at the moment! There are only a handful of composers I adore as much as I do Vaughan Williams.


NP: Old King Cole: A Ballet for Orchestra

A recent addition to my RVW collection from the stunning 2 disc 'Hikcox conducts Vaughan Williams'.



I highly recommend this one to fans of Rózsa's Biblical scores.

The pressure's on now.

Bear in mind I recommend that particular piece to Rózsa fans. Saying that, I recommend the whole album to just about anyone who appreciates orchestral music! Lots to enjoy for film music fans looking for fanfares too, none of this "look at how interesting this music is even though it sounds awful" malarkey. No Sir!
