I dunno, our strike rate has been pretty good so far, not too many of what you consider rotten apples.

    NP : SYMPHONY # 9 - Ralph Vaughan Williams

    For me...utter bliss!

Me too! I've been listening to a lot of Vaughan Williams lately. His music has been de-stressing me from my workload at the moment! There are only a handful of composers I adore as much as I do Vaughan Williams.

NP: Old King Cole: A Ballet for Orchestra

A recent addition to my RVW collection from the stunning 2 disc 'Hikcox conducts Vaughan Williams'.

    love

I highly recommend this one to fans of Rózsa's Biblical scores.

NP : SERENADE TO MUSIC - Ralph Vaughan Williams

Thanks Steven, it's been far too long since I've played this particulart CD, so many great selections on the 2CD set ( with only The Lark Ascending being a popular work ), Serenade To Music is gorgeous and, dare I say, very Edvard Grieg'ish with the influence of RVW's old mentor Maurice Ravel showing in the orchestration.

An incredible work and very fitting for this day, Remembrance Sunday.

Music of the Spheres Mike Oldfield

This is supposed to be his last album since he retired. I hope not because I'm sure he can produce more powerful music like this. It is one highlight to the next.

Retired? I really hope not, he's far too young to stop making music.

D wave Well, did you finally get around to giving Music of The Spheres a listen?

Indeed Tom. I really have to be in the right mood for Mozart and last night this was such a lovely and relaxing listen.

NP : THE VERY BEST OF Scott Walker & The Walker Brothers

Absolutely classy stuff with great tracks such as No Regrets, Make It Easy On Yourself, My Ship Is Coming In and the best song never written for a Bond film Deadlier Than The Male cool

p.s. Deadlier Than The Male was actually a film theme to a silly cheapo style British Bond spoof of the same name, a great song wasted on a silly film.

I tackled something new for me this morning, a premiere of sorts.

    NP: Symphony No. 1...Albert Roussel

To the unexperienced ear one would think of Debussy or perhaps Ravel when listening to this piece. It has that feeling of being impressionistic but from the very start I could hear Roussel, who I've had experience with in other recordings.

Also on the same CD is a tone poem Resurrection-Symphonic Prelude, his first orchestral work. It was based on a novel by Tolstoy.

  1. Alone With Everybody (Richard Ashcroft)

From the frontman of The Verve, this is best of his solo albums. This man's biggest asset is his incredible voice. I fell in love with it on 'Urban Hymns' and this is just like a continuation of that superb album, though without the distinct sound of the band. I was so angry when they split up in 1997, and I was happy when they reunited in 2008. In between he made two other solo albums that are not as good as this.

Great songs: A Song For The Lovers, New York, You On My Mind In My Sleep, On a Beach.
