    What, are you playing the FANTASIA soundtrack or sumtin'?

    Both of those are great pieces, of course, but I have a particularly fond relationship to the former, first and foremost nostalgia because I adored the Mickey Mouse segment - I saw the film many times, read about it in a FANTASIA book and had one of those 3D "Viewmaster" thingies with the story in stills.

    In adult age, I've grown fond of it for more musical reasons, as well as other Dukas works. I think he was an underrated composer.
    I am extremely serious.

    We'll never know how really good Dukas was because he destroyed most of his own works.

    I have 'Sorceror' and his Symphony in C.....I don't think there's anything else.

    There are a few things more, such as the lovely La Peri dance poems (I have a great Slatkin/French National Orchestra recording of this), the Ariane et Barbe-Bleue opera and a couple of piano pieces.

    Ah right. I'm not familiar with those but even so it makes you wonder just what 'could have been', in retrospect I'd bet a few of those lost works would now be considered classics!?

    How? dizzy I didn't catch the presenters introduction. In fact it's a pet peeve of mine that radio personalities always introduce a piece / song / whatever, but never tell you what it is at the end which is when your interest is piqued. I recognised it as Brahms Tom but I can give no more than that.

    A nice and precise review Tom, it definitely got me interested and I will check it out. Apart from the odd release ( and most often of an older score ) most of my CD buying these days isn't soundtrack related.

    But, Tim, you're meant to know. I think the station assumes that their audience is learned and don't need to be told what it is.

    The Dreaming Kate Bush

    She really came into her own as a composer and experimented a fair bit with this CD- a good companion to what will be her magnum opus Hounds of Love a few years later.
