    The Alan Parsons Project is -was-a pioneering band in the prog-rock scene, D.
    Google is your best friend.

    If you don't know them, or don't particularly care for prog-rock, I'd heartily recommend their Tales Of Mystery And Imagination, a concept album based on Edgar Allan Poe.
    (For the rest I'm not much of a fan either).

    I was reading about Muir Mathieson and the contribution he made to the British film industry. To be able to have some of these recordings today would be priceless. I fear they are lost forever.

    Bliss did write one of the greatest scores of all time IMHO. Having said that I won't bother to post the review on MT due to lack of interest. A few who enjoy classical music like I do will find this interesting.

    Back From The Dead - The Return Of Spinal Tap

    An hour-long radio "documentary", in which Peter Curran goes and seeks out Spinal Tap on the eve of their revival CD release Back From The Dead. While all involved are trying, and the setup is a worthy and interesting one (especially the Nigel Tufnel not being in the least interested in another fan making a documentary after the last debacle and appearing quite hostile), the sad conclusion has to be that the joke, after 25 years, is now finally and pretty definitively over.

    The banter and stream-of-consiousness style interviews that worked so well in the watershed 1984 This Is Spinal Tap film generally come off as forced and not very clever, or funny. The celebrity cameos (Madness' Suggs and Pulp's Jarvis Cocker) are extremely random and really add no value whatsoever.

    An finally the actual album wallows too much in its own joke: there is a reggae version of (Listen To) The Flower People and three (!) parts of a very messy and unlistenable rendition of Jazz Oddyssey. The mainstay of the rest is rerecordings of songs from This Is Spinal Tap.

    It's been a great run, but joke's over, fellas.
    Give it a rest.

    NP: The Performance - Shirley Bassey

    I like Bassey's voice very much and this album certainly reinforces my affection. Faves from this album are, Apartment, This Time, Our Time Is Now, As God Is My Witness, No Good About Goodbye, and to a lesser extent, Almost There and The Performance of My Life.

    A classic. I wonder how many cities are doing this ballet during the Holidays. I imagine hundreds. It is on here for 2 weeks. Which version is the best?

    NP : THE CAT - Jimmy Smith



    Big band jazz at it's finest! A great ensemble of musicians arranged and conducted by Lalo Schifrin. The album contains two tracks written by Schifrin and one by Elmer Bernstein, the theme to The Carpetbaggers which will be immediately familiar to many Brits as the "theme" to BBC 2's The Money Program which ran for years and years, many the time I sat through the opening titles of this coma inducing current affairs program just to listen to this fantastic piece of music.
