I think you're expecting a lot from the younger people on the forum. A person with a high school education, which is very little in the U.S.A., who hasn't risen higher than a janitorial or security guard position isn't able to think or express himself like you. You're extremely educated that isn't necessarily true of some of the people you talk to.

A second question Thor for you is how many times have you seen Sunset Blvd?

None. I'd love to, though. I love film noirs. And I think the Waxman score is pretty good. How does the film compare to DOUBLE INDEMNITY, THE MALTESE FALCON, OUT OF THE PAST etc.?

Again, I don't expect scholarly discussions - neither here nor "over there" (although a couple of them would be cool now and then) - just a little more depth than "film music sucks nowadays!" and "everything that uses a synth is crap!". Is that asking for too much? Maybe it is. I don't know anymore.
    I am extremely serious.

Sunset Boulevard in 1950 was quite a groundbreaking Wilder film. It was done after The Lost Weekend and before Stalag 17 to put it in a time frame. Not really noir it was a story about how Hollywood deals with older over the hill silent stars. Gloria Swanson and Eric Von Stroheim were both big stars in the silent era and past the days when Stroheim actually directed Swanson in some of her films. Swanson hires Holden to rewrite her script which is going to bring her back into stardom again as well as the younger man and older woman relationship. The story begins with the dead body in the pool (Holden) and is a flashback of what happened told by Holden in the morgue. The music fits perfectly and I think if you watch the film you'll have a greater appreciation of the music. This score was somewhat of a departure in 1950. This is one of the films that Wilder did which makes me appreciate what he contributed to Hollywood, who I'm sure weren't real happy at what he did.

In my opinion Thor you're expecting too much. Just ignore the comments and pick out the good responses and talk to those people.

I just realized how nice and clear my head was this morning and then I remembered I'd forgotten to take my pills. Yep my blood pressure is up as I can feel it in my head and I'll take them but man the difference. Watch yourself and don't ever have a stroke.

The DVD (latest version) offers the 'missing' morgue scene.

Montgomery Clift turned down the role because he didn't want to be seen having an affair with an older woman, thus Holden who'd been struggling since Golden Boy and Our Town got the part and it helped vault him to stardom.

It was Jack 'Dragnet' Webb's first role of substance.

Buster Keaton had a non speaking role as a member of the card game scene dubbed the 'waxworks'

The lead MSN item this morning was Bullock filing for divorce and revealing she has a baby. Anything to take our mind off of the economy, rising food prices, cost of gas, and unemployment.

It's odd but I expected it later too, however my order arrived monday by ignoring that volcano entirely. cool

Maybe because my order featured no less than 5 heroes: James Bond, Henry V, Robo, Kull and Master Chief. Obviously the might of the volcano wasn't a match for these guys.

Next time order some backup!! wink

  2. Surely they can't so that without instruction from your doctor? Maybe the rules have changed on the particular type of medication you're on?

Out of interest, Tom, do you have to pay for your prescriptions? Here in Wales, I get my high blood pressure medication for free.

I have a copay of $16.00 for a 90 day supply for each bp medication. So it is $32.00 for 3 months.
The interesting account of the med they changed from 90 to 30 was this. Medicare won't pay for 90 but will for 30. I've tried to explain that its not covered by the insurance either way but they won't listen. I had to get the store manager involved on this one.

    Thanks for asking.

Everything's fine on the health front. Tablets for blood pressure working. And, so far I've lost about 15 kg - though I'm stuck at my "ideal weight" at the moment!

Another sign of age though it my need for varifocal glasses. sad

And they're taking a bit of getting used to!

Hope you're well also, Bregje. kiss

Here bifocals are something separate to varifocals - though serve the same function.

For us, bifocals are where there's two prescriptions in the one lens (distance and reading) but there's no attempt to blend the two lens types into the one piece of glass/plastic. Varifocal lenses look like one piece of glass where the two prescriptions are blended into one another.

I don't dare look to see what my numbers are (I've always had bad eyesight). And if I remove my glasses I remain completely oblivious.

They put a system in place that I'm told to follow, then they just tell me to break it whenever it's convenient for them. What the f**k is the point?! crazy

Bond business has seen brighter and better days. When I started in this business (in 2003), the problem was there was too much work (and few people to do it). Sadly, things have changed.
