I have never really felt an urge to send them out myself in my adult life - neither on paper or cyberpaper (much due to the fact that it seems to be something families do, and I don't have my own family yet) - so I can't really expect any in return either, now can I?

Well, I seem to continu to get them, even though I send maybe three every year. I guess it's a form of Karma. If you have been good all year, people send you nice cards. If bad, you don't get any, or lousy cards.

Of course maybe some people prefer not being spammed by them and then the logic described above mght be reversed. Oh, gee, I'm even confusing myself... rolleyes

We received about fifty this year. Not sure how many we sent - I try not to get involved in that part of it. I know that I sent two.

I send the cards and don't worry if I get one back. I want to let the people know that I'm ok

They should just come and peek here. They would all know you are ok, though slightly taken in with soundtracks and score music wink

And have done so each year (although for the last six, seven years or so, the digital version has replaced the old paper one. One has to get with the times, hasn't one?)

Well, xmas greetings over email means nothing to me. It's so easy to send out a thousand of them with no efforts. Writing a personal, real card will always be better imo.

    Martijn wrote
But all in all I think I sent out about 50....as I do each year.
So yeah, I'm a little disappointed.

That's understandable then. Perhaps you just have friends who aren't really into the whole xmas card thingy. Personally I didn't care about it either before I met my gf. She gets countless cards each xmas and it blows my mind every time I see them.

As with any other form of communication, it's the effo0rt you take and attention you pay that means anything. Not the chosen medium. Receiving a '50-for-10-cents' generic post card with a hastily scribbled 'Season's greetings' doesn't really touch me the same way as a thoughtfully composed email, with a personal greeting or well thought-out joke, or personalised photo attachment.

Needless to say I don't do any spam-like christmas greetings. I take a LOT of effort to create something that is funny and/or memorable at least.
(In fact, whenever I tell people how much time I spend on mails and e-cards they generally get a slightly dismayed look. The only thing that is faster for me in working with with email than with quill and paper is the process of sending. All the rest is still a labour of love. smile )

  3. After reading your disappointment at not having many Christmas cards (and due to my alcohol-related state) I tried to call you using a (mobile) number I had for you. But I got bumped to, what I presume was a voicemail messaging service.

Oh well, maybe next year. And have your phone switched on!!

    shocked So it WAS you!
I noticed -only much later- that a UK number had tried to reach me, and I wondered who it was!
I could really only think of you, but dismissed it as I never thought you actually might have called!

    Thanks, Alan!
    Much appreciated!

Ahh, then it does indeed sound like you deserved some Christmas greetings in return. Make sure that the next year's greeting is filled with spite and sarcasm, and you're bound to get some reactions.

    Another bout of dizziness yesterday
    listen to more classical music!
  4. Some backache started yesterday morning that gets progressively worse as the day progresses, particularly after sitting.

I've spent most of the day today lying on my back taking advantage of our wi-fi setup!

I'm not really sure if I have to say I'm sorry, or I'm glad as it sounds like a new experience with the feeling in the leg thing.

    Maybe a bit of both?

Get better, Tom! At least it's a passing ailment. You'll be up and running in no time.
    I am extremely serious.
  6. Sorry to hear your fall, Tom.

I'm getting fed up of this backache. It comes and goes. And if I forget I have it it's very keen to remind me if I move awkwardly.

I've no idea. I think it's still too early to go to the docs. I'll give it over the weekend to improve. If it is still like this then I'll seek help.

It may be nothing more than a trapped nerve ( painful though it is ) in which case physio will fix it. Let us know how things go.
