The 13th Warrior - Jerry Goldsmith

At the time it was released, I thought "Goldsmith could do this in his sleep"; "he's not as good as he used to be"; and so on and so on. Now that there's nobody around to write this sort of thing, I realise just how lucky I was to get so much from this composer, even in the later "in his sleep" years. Frankly it seems brilliant.

Hey, this really sounds like the soundtrack to one of my old Amiga racing games.
    That's fine with me!

NP: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - John Williams

Aside from a couple of rousing cues like Buckbeak's Flight and the fantastic end suite Mischief Managed!, this is not Williams' best effort... yet it's still miles above most other scores coming out this decennium.
Highly enjoyable, and a great listen overall.

I think it's his best effort in the Harry Potter universe and easily the best Potter score. And while this isn't in the same league as his late 70's early 80's output it's still a VERY impressive score!

Excellent good old fashioned horror score complete with organ and 'tinkly' bits to shiver your spine.

    NP: Hook - John Williams

One of my very favourites! What a luscious, powerful score, with so many wonderful themes and ideas throughout! Something here for any kind of Williams fan. Man, did this score deserve a better film. (I don't hate Hook, and it certainly has its charm....but it's so uneven!)

Can't imagine why I haven't listened to this for so long?
It's really like a sort of coming home!
