What's wrong with the score? Does it not contain good action materials?

It does contain some good cues. But best action score of all time? That is pushing it too much I think.

Revisiting scores from 2009 tonight. Hypnotizing violin lines with some guitar licks. Very good.

I do. It's because these people have something wrong with them.

Wow! one of the best action scores. Even now its still considered to be the best action score of all time. Rush Hour, The Rescue, Entering the Airport and The Gap are amazing action cues.

Speed is a very good action score, probably the MV action oriented score that set the rules for this group of composers (along with ánother Mancina score, Bad Boys). But "the best action score OF ALL TIME"? I´ll take that comment as a joke wink

I used to think that was The Rock. Did it come before Speed? (Though they've moved on these days.)

No. After Speed. The Rock released in 1996 and Speed released in 1994.

Speed is a 1994 film; Bad Boys a 1995 one. The Rock was released in 1996 smile Three very busy years for Nick Glennie-Smith.

  2. Avatar (James Horner)

So this is now my third listen (first time in the film, where it was much better experience when glued to the visuals). On CD it just doesn't hold my interest the way it does for others. First 4 tracks flow by without anything interesting happening. From track 5 the reasonably good stuff comes along. I say reasonable because it's just not good enough compared to what he has written before. What this score lacks is all-out energy and consistence. There are some parts in the middle cues that are mixed way too soft and don't gel with the music just half a minute later. And the unoriginality of it all is truly striking. Things pick up again with the ending tracks but overall I'm a tad disappointed with this one, especially since Horner had a year to write something truly special and I hoped it would be more something like his 90s classics. I may like it a bit more upon repeated listens, but the new Titanic this sure as hell ain't. I was listening to Titanic like crazy when it released and the years after, sadly Avatar won't do the same. 3.5 stars for now.

But I should be happy to have a new Horner after so long.

Why do people complain about a score then give it a high rating like 3.5!? 3.5 is still pretty bloody good!

Quite Gladiator-influenced and classic MV material, very enjoyable.

IMO this is good. A 3.5 rate despite all the complaints is a really good rating. Besides, if the complaints are elaborated (I mean not only "this sucks", "this is not good", "this is wrong", etc) like Gilles´, Jordi´s, Pawel´s and the others it´s really interesting material.

Yes. That's why I don't like the action stuff so much I could do. The lack of strengh of the thematic rendtion in "Scoreched eart ", "Destruction of the hometree" are a little bit frustrating.

about the first tracks, i don't know why people has this problems with them. i think they captures pretty well the wrondrous world of Pandora. Tribal and "magic". This is what Cameron wanted, and of course what Horner tried.

    NP:Perfect Storm (Horner).

The main theme is so good, and it's used sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much.

But who can resist this 50 minutes of non stop action music full of energy and great orchestrations?????

The electric guitars turns me on!

It's not the fact that opinions aren't elaborated, and it's nothing to do with me agreeing or not agreeing: it's the fact that such a high rating is given after relatively negative opinions are expressed! Seems odd. dizzy
