About The Pacific...The first 2 tracks, the main themes, are good. nothing new, but good enough.
The rest.....a little bit better than Henri 4 but still bland.
Zimmer must be busy with Inception.
Or just lazy, handing over material to incompetent people.
The whole album seems like a another retread of Band of Brothers, which in itself, was a better score than Saving Private Ryan. Thus, I'll nuke the fridge by saying that The Pacific is just as good as Saving Private Ryan. :runawayandhide: -

The second season 3 disc is mostly irrelevant. Season 4 definitely could have been the double disc version. It's an hour twenty long anyway, but it's over so quickly! -

I've not heard the music from this new mini series, so I can't comment on that. But I can see where you're coming from with Band of Brothers... though Hymn To The Fallen tops everything from that score and then some. -

I appreciate Williams' minimal approach to scoring Private Ryan and I love the main theme (and no, I'm not taking about Hymn to the Fallen.) There are no big fanfares and no big action cues. When Williams' score pops up it make's statement. I find the grandiose of Kamen's score a bit much for the subject matter but for those judging on album listen only will probably favour Band of Brothers. And Kamen's main theme is superb.

I've not heard the music from this new mini series, so I can't comment on that. But I can see where you're coming from with Band of Brothers... though Hymn To The Fallen tops everything from that score and then some.
Yeah, I do love that Hymn and the somber orchestral theme that John Williams wrote. But since it wasn't featured in the story of the movie, I'd consider that a byproduct of the score, not the actual score. Apples to apples, BoB still wins. -

I think the score, when it appeared, was most affective when the main theme were utilized, but it ended up being the same statement over and over.... Don't get me wrong. I love that theme, and it works great on the album, when I want something in the background while working, but it's effectiveness got lost after a while. It feels like that SPR, in the end, works regardless of the score. -

I think it's trying to, but half of the time, it's stuck in that "rumbling underscore" sensibility. It's a good background listening though. -

I think you could strip away 30 minutes of the score and not miss anything in the film. Here is what I would keep
Revitisting Normandy - opening scene! Great build up to the first shot of the beach!
Omaha Beach - Just the first statement of the theme. Could give up all the Copland after that.
Wade's Death - a perfect cue
High School Teacher - Awesome renditions of the main theme
Last Battle - Perfect finale
Hymn to the Fallen
That would have worked for me!

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS - Explosions In The Sky, Brian Reitzell and David Torn
ok, it's not really a score but i love this kind of music. the music captures the atmosphere and the setting of the movie very well. the best moments are the emotional parts. the landscape of texas in sunset in conjunction with this music leaves an unique impression. awesome music. also a great listening experience on cd. -

I'll admit season 5 was very underwhelming, but he seems to be doing all he can again with season 6. The show hasn't allowed for the big epic stuff we used to get. -

Custom playlist as the 4 discs just proved to be too much. This really is splendid stuff, high on glorious themes and rhythmic momentum and even some standout choral moments. If you hear tracks such as Nautilus or Born Anew you can expect much more in this style on this wonderful soundtrack. Some cheesy songs are present but they blend in rather well with the rest which is upbeat and very nicely orchestrated. I love it, because the music has a lively energy that is so rare in videogame music.
I'm looking forward to this score. Have you heard any of Motoi Sakuraba's video game scores? They are also very good. -

It's good... but not brilliant! Far too many brilliant ideas and themes lifted from his other scores. It's very good!
