What about Eragon?
Excellent theme... but sorry to say nothing much else. Doyle's high pitch trumpets and 10 thousand cymbal crashes gets on my nerves.

NP : THE LONDON SESSIONS VOL 1 - Georges Delerue
Some great themes and suites on this including Platoon, Rich and Famous, A Little Romance, Crimes of The Heart and more.
Lovely.

I love it, though I admit it's a score without a personality, it's Doyle doing his thing but nothing comes close to his more original works. The trumpets and cymbal crashes don't annoy me though.
Merlin is indeed lovely but maybe a little drawn out, too much directionless underscore (especially the middle part).
Randy Edelman's Dragonheart deserves a mention too."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

Jack the Bear - James Horner
A score that flows by gently without making too much waves. It has a few moments that are genuinely beautiful, but I have a hard time keeping focused on it, it's much more background music than his thematic-rich works. I rate it somewhere in between."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

Los Borgia - Angel Irrallamendi
Chased this one down due to one really gorgeous track appearing in Thor's "Religious Sound" playlist, and I'm glad I did: powerful, dramatic (but not dark per se) score with strong Rota-esque overtones. Melodic as hell, with very strong choral and strings work. Absolutely lovely and spellbinding.
If material like Rota's The Taming Of The Shrew or Delerue's A Walk With Love And Death are your cup of tea, I pretty much assure you you will like this one.
I am glad you finally got around this...last year, when i talked you about it somewhere else, you said something in the lines of "it must be another one of those melancholic string-led ones that D likes"
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Well, I haven't seen How To Train Your Dragon yet but out of all the film scores that I have where dragons play a key part in the storyline Shearmur's is at the top of the list.
-Erik-
Well, in term of their own respective genres, Live Action Adventure and 3D Animation, Shearmur's and Powell's contributions are at the top of the list. I can't, in good taste, and logic, blend them. -

More Mancini excellence, I love the 'warm' orchestrations in this moody score, one of the best purchases I made last year

You're joking, right? Animation itself has a multitude of subgenres onto itself. But you can make a case both for and against it, I suppose.http://unsungfilmscores.blogspot.com/ -- My film/TV/game score review blog -

If anyone call animation a genre, I will punch him!
Yeah it's just a medium, you can make a horror or fantasy or action movie, or even documentary by animation.Labels are for cans, not people. - Anthony Rapp -

NP: The Spiral Road - Jerry Goldsmith
This is really a very lovely score, with some very strong Golden Age overtones. In fact, if anyone would have said this was by Alfred Newman I would not have been surprised. Like Alan, I am enjoying the ethnic elements immensely, but the score overall -as I said before- is very accessible, and grealy enjoyable.'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

NP - Bridge to Terabithia - Aaron Zigman
"Seeing Terabithia" is nice. The action music in "the battle" is good (I wonder how many tracks have been called "the battle"...). It's hard to judge Zigman's contribution to the film on an album that only has 4 tracks of score. I like Zigman, though. This music isn't mind-blowing, but it's pretty good. I hope he gets a lot of good films to score in the future. I could see myself becoming a big fan. -

Even though it kinda drags on in some parts, I immensely enjoy this score with its powerful male chorals and sheer pulsating energy of the synth/electronic and orchestra combo. Especially the last two tracks! -
