I heard parts of his Starship Troopers. Parts were fine, but it didn't really impress me. And the song was just ridiculously bad, it tried to but missed the tongue-in-cheek satiric tone of the original by a long shot.

5 stars all the way!!!! A swashbuckling action adventure score brimming with fantastic and memorable themes. If you find this high flying score... the promo is very, very rare and ridiculously expensive... then I highly recommend you pick it up... for a reasonable price. You will NOT be disappointed!

    -Erik-

I love the series. I'll have to find out more about this promo.

I found the score wasn't memorable enough to stick around, and it kind of bounced around a little, but that's expected -- it was made for a cartoon.

But the show had some nice scoring from time-to-time, a compillation of scores cues arranged properly, would make a heck of a promo.

That's ignorant, Justin. Does The Secret of NIMH, The Land Before Time, Mulan, Prince of Egypt, Heavy Metal, etc sound like they were written for cartoons?

an episodic television cartoon with fast turn around times. Perhaps you forgot that when you named films which were in the works for sometimes more than two years.

("Mulan" score not counted, since Goldsmith may have not had enough time after Portman dropped out)

I didn't forget that at all. The writing... even for a fast turn around episodic television series... is just as good as any film score I've heard. Are you going to tell me that the music written for Battlestar Galactica or Lost is of lower quality because it was written in a short time span for TV. Give me a break.

Have you heard the Badelt Scorpion King and Starship Troopers scores that recently appeared? Are they any good?

Those scores were okay. Nothing really memorable for me to grasp onto. And though I've barely listen to them (last time was about a month ago) Scorpion King sounded better than ST3. I'll be able to give a more definite respond next week.

This should be the case with most TV animation scores.

Anyone heard of a promo for Darkwing Duck? Or for Chip N Dale? or Duck Tales? It'd be great to do a box set for those four (including TaleSpin) series.

After a couple of days listening the 3 GREAT Zimmer scores, i need to clean a little bit my mind.

    NP:The Great train robbery (Goldsmith)

What an adictive main theme! and the score is really great if you are a gentleman.

I will play after: Chinatow (Goldsmith)

I don't like very much trumpets, but the love theme here is gorgeous and the suspense stuff have a really interesting orchestrations.

I will play after Chinatown: Night Crossing (Goldmsith)

It never captured my interest. but it seems this score is really loved here.

Good to see TaleSpin be appreciated! smile I was really delighted to get this one, I remember I used to replay many episodes of the show on TV only to listen to the music, the promo was like a dream come true for me. Amazing themes, great action and dramatic material. It's remarkable how the main theme is developed throughout the score.

The show is very good BTW, much better than just a cartoon... some of the episodes are actually quite mature and emotional while retaining the essence of a Disney show.

That's what I think too. It's not outstanding, but it's the most fun I've had with a Tyler score in a long time.

Wow, sweeping first track, albeit very deceptive of what the score actually is, a Yoko-Kanno-style mish mash of genres and styles. I like it. It reminds me of her work on Macross Plus a bit too. I'll look forward to hearing the game rip for this.

A shame it doesn't hold up to the first track, but overall it's a very satisfying listen. As Steven has rightly pointed out, "Card To Play" is blatantly a "Scorponok" ripoff from Transformers.

Having listened to it, I can unequivocally say with the utmost of confidence... you wouldn't like this, D.

I liked it, it's very enjoyable in places. Does mender a bit with the mickey mousing, although some of it is quite good. But 5 stars? Hmm, not sure about that.

Well, mickey mousing doesn't bother me. It's a quintessential part of film music and if done right works very, very well. TaleSpin is right up my alley and I love every moment on the album!

Probably my favourite from Desplat. Impressive suspense music, with an (as Jordi would say) hypnotic main theme which fits the film perefctly. Finally a Desplat score I love since minute one!

It is really good, specially if you've watched the film. Don't ask me why, but I think this was not an easy film to score (not the usual hollywood suspense film), so I love it even more for this reason.

It certainly doesn't sound usual from what I hear. Loved Chase on the Ferry I just heard. Couldn't it also be Desplat delivered such an unusual score that you cannot imagine the film anymore with a more straightforward, less memorable score? Though I haven't seen the film yet... I'm sure I'll buy the score the moment I see it smile
