This is the first Brian Tyler score in a LOOOOOOOONG time that I've really enjoyed and made it past the first 3 or 4 tracks without shutting it off.

Damn, maybe they sent me something else.

I didn't say it was anything extraordinary... all I said was that I enjoyed it.

I did not. Supply was limited and we weren't sure how many would be handed out. I had old reddy in my pocket the whole time though.

That's what I think too. It's not outstanding, but it's the most fun I've had with a Tyler score in a long time.

Much the same feelings as with The Expendables and actually I'd have said it was by Brian Tyler in a blind tasting.

Well, it's not pleasant, but it's pretty impressive well-orchestrated horror music for a BIG orchestra. I'm writing a review of it now and will give it three stars.

    Krull James Horner

An edited version I've been working on to try and cut out all the dissonant and horror aspects of the score leaving just the adventure and 'magical' side of it. For me, this makes a MUCH better listen - and I'm proud of the edit too. It comes to around 55 minutes, a good length for this score.

Also, this should be played to every director who feels themes have no place in modern films.

NP: Dragon Hunters - Klaus Badelt

Imagine TMNT, without the obvious Rock&Roll elements, and with a dollop of asian/ethnic themes and sound, along with more action cues and fun elements. I can't compare it to The Promise, though both scores does have similarity to each other, natch. It's leaning more toward Poseidon, in term of orchestration, arrangement, and style.

If you can get a hold of the score, it's worth it.

NP: The Promise - Klaus Badelt
Haven't listened to this in forever. One of the most brilliant Zimmer-style scores ever composed, IMO. Such a perfect blending of Western melody and Eastern instruments. But the best part is the themes, they are so gorgeous and sweeping and epic and deserve every manner of hyperbole available.

if only the film wasn't so pointless....

Yeah, good score to a banal movie. BTW, mash The Promise and Dragon Hunters together, and you'll get the score that The Promise should have been.

The album is a bit overlong but it is a good listen, very melodic indeed.

NP: StarCraft 2 - Bunch of people

Wow, sweeping first track, albeit very deceptive of what the score actually is, a Yoko-Kanno-style mish mash of genres and styles. I like it. It reminds me of her work on Macross Plus a bit too. I'll look forward to hearing the game rip for this.

5 stars all the way!!!! A swashbuckling action adventure score brimming with fantastic and memorable themes. If you find this high flying score... the promo is very, very rare and ridiculously expensive... then I highly recommend you pick it up... for a reasonable price. You will NOT be disappointed!

Yes. It needed action cues to breakup all of the sweeping moments. 2-3 more cues along the line of the Stampede track would have helped it a bunch.

I suppose that is quite true...it's just that I wouldn't get rid of any of the current "sweeping moments" or even any of the quieter parts...so, I guess it should have been a 2 hour album! I would gladly take that. Or even 3 hours. It's just that good.

Oh sure. I like the album as is right now, but I would love it if we got about 10-15 minutes more of action music.
