    The Expendables - Brian Tyler

Extremely enjoyable. I didn't think Tyler would write anything this good again.

His best since Timeline, I think. A better-rounded album than that, too (but still 20 minutes too long).

The CD is released on 23 August in Europe so I assume you will be able to buy your copy from a shop on that day. I was lucky enough to be sent a digital promo for review.

There's a bit of a theme (not particularly memorable) and there are electric guitars but for the most part it's very orchestral. A nice hint of Goldsmith in the action music (of which there is a great deal).

    NP:Sherlock Holmes (Zimmer)

I used to play only 3 or 4 tracks. These days I'm in the correct mood to listen the whole score.

It's really, really good. I simply adore this weird and rich instrumentation. I'm glad Zimmer has been nominated for this one.

PS: I find the gypsi track still annoying.

    NP:Thelma and Louise Complete (Zimmer)

a really good score. Specially the "thunderbird" theme.

"chase/grand canyon" is one of the most exiting action tracks from Zimmer ever. What I expected in Inception is here, in the 5 minutes track into that track a really mindblowing synthetic music beggins.

Sorry my friend, this must be one of the most traumatic film music experiences i've ever had.

Alternatively, for an actual masterpiece, check out Rachmaninov's piano concerto no. 2.

Perhaps it could be this? Replying to a member, on a soundtrack score forum, who thinks that a particular cue is a "masterpiece", and telling him to listen to a different kind of "masterpiece" in a different musical genre is kinda inane?

Imagine this, "Wow, Superman is a masterpiece of superhero filmmaking" vs "Hey, watch The Empire Strikes Back to see a REAL masterpiece". Same difference.

Really, you think that's what he meant? Wow, thanks for clearing things up for me Captain Obvious!

Incidentally, Sherlock Holmes is in my opinion NOT a masterpiece: not in the soundtrack world, nor in the wider world of orchestral music. The reason I used the piano concerto as an example is because -regardless of medium- it sets a good benchmark for what 'masterpiece' really means. Of course I could have used film music examples, but that has little effect on my point.

But Sherlock Holmes is good, I'll give you that.

I think the only obvious statement one can make is that everyone's opinion is valid, and right, even if you think it's wrong.

It is only partially made of cheese. Mostly cheddar.
