NP: Daybreakers - Christopher Gordon
Revisiting this for the first time in about 6 months and it's just as strong as when I first heard the score in January. This is one of the smartest and freshest horror scores I've heard in a long while. And it's very interesting to hear Gordon's utilizing his Rugby World Cup percussion and rhythms in this score. The orchestral climax heard during "Spread the Cure" is exactly what we rarely hear in these kinds of movies. Well done Mr. Gordon. This will rank somewhere in the middle of my Top 10 of 2010 pack.

Spread the Cure is indeed a kick ass track, I'm returning to this one a lot lately.waaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh -

INCEPTION - ZIMMER
After the dronefest of Shore's music for a fellowship I wanted to go for something a lot lighter in tone. Joyful almost...
This fits that description.
Love it though !"considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

Looks like I'm going through some of the years best scores. This one doesn't break new ground but it's combo of electronics and orchestra is a perfect blend and reaches emotional heights that only a few scores have reached this year!

El Mal Ajeno - Fernando Velazquez
This score is so beautiful, sad, full of emotions, this is the kind of music I love! The main theme is very similar with the cue The End from Aimee & Jaguar by Jan A. P. Kaczmarek. Maybe it's just a coincidence. Anyway it's doesn't take away my enjoyment for this score. One of my favorite scores of the year! -

I've got Daybreakers on my 2010 list. It made its festival debut in 2009 but started to play world wide in January of 2010.

NP: The Karate Kid - James Horner
I didn't have time to listen to the entire album so I skipped to the last 4 track which is more than enough for me to add this score to the best of 2010 list. About half way through "From Master to Student to Master" James Horner turns it on and doesn't look back. Some of the most impressive and emotional film music from Horner since The New World.

It does work wonders in the film I might add. Would you agree with me when I say that no one can score climactic scenes like Horner can? I haven't even seen the movie yet, and I was pumped up with the last two tracks. -

ALEXANDRE DESPLAT - the king' speech
I really don't know how does this man do it; release so many scores which all have something to say; i found deep interest in all of his works this year, including Harry Potter and of course this small, elegant and string-driven beautiful gem. Can't wait to observe its functions within the movie.
Can hardly wait to hear it myself. -

I agree with you Kevin. He sure did make that his trademark all the way through the 80s and 90s, but a lot less during the 00s, though there are a few exceptions. So Karate Kid is a return to form in that respect. Another great one is The Legend of Zorro's final cue. If he manages to end an album in that way, it already gets half of my good points.
But one of the all-time best climactic cues is 'Alfred, Tristan, The Colonel, The Legend'. And it concludes an equally brilliant score."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

I prefer Thomas Newman's climactic cues to Horners. He unleashed unparalleled beauty at the end of a lot of his scores that he only hints at until that big big moment. I LOVE that. By the way, Horner is my favorite composer
I think I like JNH's climactic cues better than Horner's too.
