I agree, although it is over the top in the film. Is like the composer said: 'well, this film is crap, but I'm gonna enjoy it anyway'.

    He actually said that?? biggrin

    He probably thought that.

NP : ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE APES - Jerry Goldsmith

Not brilliant but still good score with a superb main title theme that I could play over and over.

Trek III is absolutely fantastic from beginning to near end. The source cue is atrocious and I still don't understand why this was included.

Indeed, I always promptly press stop when the End Credits finish!

Maybe it's because I like electronic music (even cheesy, dated 80's electronic music), but I actually enjoyed that last track.
  2. You ... enjoyed ... it ???? dizzy

NP : MOUSEHUNT - Alan Silvestri

One of my all time favourite scores and my favourite Silvestri by far. Listening to my 47 minute album which I put together from the scoring sessions. Bliss! cool
  3. NP: Zure Barnean - Yoyes (Ángel Illarramendi)

Great main theme performed by a vocal soloist (in euskera language) and the strings. I love how always Illarramendi makes great themes in his scores.

Superb score! One of Silvestri's finest!

I love the little Superman homage with the string ostinato and the main theme played in the trompets.

WP: Narnia: Voyage Of The Dawn Treader - David Arnold

The orchestral writing is certainly much better than the previous two scores in the series. I think the album arrangement could've been better if they combined some of the shorter tracks together, but it's still a fun listening experience and I'm glad he included HGW's great Narnia theme here. The 11 minute battle cue near the end is especially kick@$$! punk
  5. NP: The Rebel - Christopher Wong

There's some wonderful, heartfelt scoring in this music. And with the oriental emphasis it's a great start to the week.

NP : CATCH ME IF YOU CAN - John Williams

A great listen from start to finish with some welcome inclusions from Stan Getz, Frank Sinatra, Dusty Springfield etc.

    A very classy album.

Took a listen to this over the weekend and I was disappointed with what I heard. I wasn't keen on the song selection and the rest just passed me by without making much of an impression. As with scores that feature harmonica, works that feature saxophones prominently are very hit-and-miss with me. The first and last tracks are all that I'll revisit from this score.

Jackboots On Whitehall - Guy Michelmore

A smashingly good, rip-roaring war epic score filled with great themes, action, rich orchestration etc.
And it's great fun! One of the best scores of the year without doubt!
Totally impressive from beginning to end! cool

Have you seen the film Alan?

  7. No. There's nothing in the film that attracts me to it. And now, not even the score. wink

  8. HEADHUNTER: REDEMPTION - RICHARD JACQUES

Sadly this sequel score just doesn't come close to the more inspired and fun original. There's actually whole segments in this score passing by with me completely uninterested and bored. Probably not something I'll listen to ever again, I'll stick to my 14 minute suite which has all that is needed.

Heck I bought this set for Headhunter anyway. cool

  9. GEARS OF WAR - KEVIN RIEPL

Ah, much better this one... Listening to selected cues (mainly the action music) and it's fooking brilliant this way. This is very much a kickass orchestral rollercoaster ride. I've played the game and the score helped to make me slay the alien invaders much more efficiently. punk

A superb film IMO, one of Spielberg's very best, along with MUNICH, of his 00's films, but to each his own.

Moody and melancholic at times and that's why I like it.

I agree. It totaly fits to Part 1, a "road movie" according to David Yates. And barely sounds like a Harry Potter score, which fits to the movie, because this wasn't a typical Harry Potter film.

Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  11. WP: The Chronicles of Narnia 3 (David Arnold)

I must admit, I was expecting more from it. Needless to say it's better than the first 2 Narnia's, but nowhere near the likes of Godzilla (of which exact themes just tend to pop up in this score) or god forbid ID4 or Stargate. Too much soft music too, tends me make me forget I'm listening to an epic adventure

Gonna give it a few more tries, but this one will not go over 3 and a half

I'm not entirely sure it is, really. I think all three of the Narnia albums are wildly inconsistent listens and the strongest is probably Prince Caspian. (Arnold's could have been made to sound much better with a better album presentation, but they missed the chance to do that.)

for me Narnia 3 has the most epic music, problem is that half of the album is filler music
Once again there's an album that lasts too long for its own good

The series' best musical moments are certainly on Arnold's album; but I doubt I'll ever listen to it again. It's too badly-produced. Someone could make an extremely good 30-40 minute deluxe edition of it and I'd be first in line.
