For T3 do be the Pirates 3 of Transformers scores, it would have to have awesome new melodies, that was what made Pirates 3 special. I didn't hear any particularly interesting new melodies in Transformers 3.
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

Bittersweet romantic drama, one of Yared's best scores.

Agreed! It's one of my favorite romantic score. Great theme.

NP: Prince of Persia - Harry Gregson-Williams

One of my all time favorite HGW score, on par with his Kingdom of Heaven (as filtered through Sinbad). Excellent thematic writing. Good ethnic material throughout and diverse arrangements. Thoroughly enjoying the whole album.

I'm currently listening to John Adam's concert work City Noir. Some one suggested that this was his most cinematic concert piece. It's incredible. Adam's unmistakabele style is all over this piece but it's far more lyrical and "focused" for that lack of a better word then any other Adams piece I've heard. There's a Goldsmith vibe going on in this score as well.

Excerpt - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-pp6WD89JU
Interview - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCfPkMAZ … re=related

I'll then be moving onto Alfos Conde's new action thriller score VIENTO EN CONTRA

1. Conde's score has some good tracks and is another solid release from Mikael.

I like the Adams piece, very pokey! cool

Along the same lines I wanted to put a clip here of Philip Glass THE CANYON, a truly raucous and film music like piece, unfortunately there's only a 2 minute snippet of it to be found at Youtube and it's from near the begining where it sounds more typical Glass, towards the end it's one of his most powerful and complex pieces of music.

NP: Tsuneyoshi Saito - Fafner Vol 1&2 (No Where & Now Here)

This is for those who are dissapointed by the recent work of Hollywood composers and want to hear great, unashamedly, thematic, big and bold symphonic film music. Enjoy!

It's good stuff Cristian, really good! I really like the fanfaric martial theme, it says something that I can still hum it now after listening and I can't say that about a lot of film music these days.

Cheers!

Anyone want to give a guess on how much a sealed Varese Club limited edition release of The Right Stuff would go for? I don't think that Amazon/Ebay is giving me an accurate price.

4. "A Broken Heart" from LADIES IN LAVENDER by Nigel Hess.

What a stunningly beautiful piece of music! Wow. I'm am feeling genuinely moved here. The distant-sounding solo violin gives it such a delicate feeling. It's a great track on an album full of great tracks. I'm completely unfamiliar with the rest of Nigel Hess's body of work. Has he written anything else that approaches the beauty of this score?

I suppose that if you think it is a fair trade and you are happy with it then everything is fine.

I am finding a similar issue with putting prices to CDs. There are figures people place on a title, but if it does not have any takers then the price is too high. But then a lower price may be lower than you could get. But if you come up with a number you are happy with and it goes then everyone is happy.

That's it.
RIGHT THERE.
The only statement in any niche market (and, the case could be argued, in many other markets) that actually MAKES SENSE.

Any collector's world such an odd one, with such a hoopla being made about the intrinsic value of items, that many tend to forget it's only what any fool will actually pay that determines the value.
If there's one weirdo who'll shell out 2000 dollars for a copy, that doesn't make that CD worth 2000 dollars!
It means there is ONE weirdo willing too pay that!

I'll be happy to take my cue from soundtrackcollector, Amazon and eBay for a rough generic estimate for insurance purposes, but when it comes to trading or selling: " if you come up with a number you are happy with and it goes then everyone is happy".

Wise words, Alan.

6. Listening to a bunch of random tracks again and Jerry Fielding's theme to Hogan's Heroes came on. A great little theme to a show I used to love when I was young. Not seen it in decades.

Anyone else remember this American show?

Yeah, it was repeated on Sky in the late eighties, so I caught some episodes.
Pretty dated in every aspect (I especially disliked the Zorro knock-off obese/dumb sergeant), but I think it may have been ground breaking at the time in the sense that it was the first TV show that poked fun at WW II, wasn't it?

Just finished with Conde's VIENTO EN CONTRA. Lots of atmosphere and suspense. A bit tedious! The action cues are solid and the recording is bright and dynamic!

Moving onto...

NP: Super 8 - Michael Giacchino

Didn't blow me away in the theatre... let's "hear" what it has to say on its own.

7. That "Letting Go" track blew me away in theaters. I'm curious to hear what you think of the rest of it, Erik. You haven't been too impressed with Giacchino's recent scores.

NP: HAUNTED - Debbie Wiseman.

Multiple fine themes. Slightly creepy, but not too horrific. Good score.

It could have been so much more.
But then again, the terrible ending to the film didn't help matters. Giacchino tried his best to convey emotionally what Abrams missed out on but even the music was underwhelming to me. If I have to make a comparison (and I think it's fair to do so since the film was a homage to everything 80's Spielberg) then I wish Giacchino went for more E.T. and less Lost. The final shot is almost identical to E.T. which blew us all out of the theatres in '82. In Super 8 we get much of the same
but for some reason Giacchino went for less bombast and more restraint. I would have preferred triumphant timpani and blaring brass then a airy strings, twinkling harp and piano chords.

Surprised! There is no greater fan of James Horner than I and I have come to like the majority of his super-long albums but there are parts of this I just find dull. (You like the first nine minutes of "Bavmorda's Spell Is Cast", for instance?)
