  2. Not me playing this but I thought that someone may be interested.

    Anne's off to a concert tonight. Up the coast in Rhyl, Joan Armatrading is in concert and Anne's there having a great time. It's been decades since she saw her last in concert and she has been so excited about this event over the last few weeks.

    Joan Armatrading's music is not my thing at all and so I elected to stay at home. Anne's gone with her brother (and his wife). As Anne and her brother used to regularly go to concerts when they were much younger I am sure that there's a lot of reminiscing going on tonight.

    (Anne's out hence my post on the food...food....food thread!!)

    I'm finding it very difficult to eject this CD. Loving the orchestrations which at times remind me of Hugo Friedhofer and Jerome Moross, her sister Nadia who lived to a good old age and was a great composer in her own right ( Lili died tragically young at 24 ) worked with (tutored?) some film composers amongst whom was Elmer Bernstein ( I'll have to look this up ).

    NP: ROSENROT (Rammstein)

    After MUTTER, Rammstein became a bit more 'fuzz guitar'ish. I prefer their earlier "cleaner" sound. Still, the last three albums are starting to grow on me.
    I am extremely serious.

    NP: AERO - LIVE IN AALBORG, DENMARK (Jean Michel Jarre)

    The outdoors concert by the windmills a few years ago. Many of the classics, but also some new good stuff in what seemed like a great -- albeit rainy and muddy -- concert.

    I'm still sorting out the 'Antar' poem by Rimsky-Korsakov. While it is one of his earlier works its actually later because he revised it three times.

    Yes. Of all the versions I have it is Dutoit's that I would take to a Desert Island. Sadly it is Bernard Herrmann's version that I think the least of.

    Is the Dutoit version the Decca version from the 1980s with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra?

    Agree with the Herrmann assessment Tim. It is painfully so although Herrmann lovers will argue with you about it. I recently acquired a Boult version which is pretty darn good if you take the archival sound into consideration.

    I have the Boult on LP, it's a damned good version. Herrmann does Neptune justice and I remember his Saturn as being good but that's about it.

    A truly awesome work and it is probably my favourite Glass work, I fell for this from the very first time I heard it.

    My first listen of the morning was a reissue by Delos of the 4th Symphony "Dramatic" of Anton Rubenstein. While one must classify him as a lesser composer this one has some interesting moments and is well worth exploring.

    I'm not familiar with this one, but I see that it's recent (2005); does the balance tip toward electronic or acoustic instruments?

    HOOVERPHONIC with orchestra

    Forget friggin Adele on Skyfall and listen to how proper songs with orchestra should sound like. There are some songs in here that could easily take the skyfall lyrics and be a mile better.

    Well done D. Belgian style! I like them as well. While I preferred the previous singer (Heike!), this album sure is very good. On Spotify you can listen to a recording of a concert of some weeks ago. punk

    Such a warmth and charming grace in her voice. Their songs are wonderfully sexy and delightful, varied and full of emotions; Very much unlike the half-man, half-woman, at-times-transvestite monotonous singing of Adele. rolleyes
