    Strauss Heroines - Performed by Renee Fleming

    Great disc. The Capriccio final scene doesn't do much for me but I love the Rosenkavalier selection, the Arabella duet and of course, the orchestral moonlight scene from Capriccio.

    I haven't listened to this opera for months and getting back to it makes me realize what a masterpiece it is. Not a wasted note in the whole hour and a half(ish).

    I must recommend this album again. It's very film music like, mostly instrumental tracks, technically its a "score" to some sort of band-created film (I don't really understand the particulars) but its absolutely fantastic. Sort of trailer-music-like in epicness, but not as repetitive and predictable as trailer music usually is.

    Funny you should mention it....someone played that album at a party I recently attended, and I had to ask him what it was and that it sounded very film music-like.
    I am extremely serious.

    What an Album!

    I have been listening to this album for twenty years (and to the Song "Long Before I Was Born" over thity years). It never ceases to amaze me!
    Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.
  8. Hans Zimmer - Aurora

    A poignant choral arrangement of the Dark Knight Rises themes written after the cinema shooting during the premiere. Arranged and recorded in London, when Hans was working out the premiere there.

    All proceedings from this beautiful cue are going to charity, the victim relief. I talked to Hans about this and he asked me to translate it to Polish and post it on my profile. I also considered reviewing this single for my website and he told me specifically not to do it, because he wants the message to be conveyed and not have it necessarily connected to his name so much.

    La Voie Triomphale
    The Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces
    Included is a wonderful composition called "Children's Overture composed by Eugene Bozza which has many different melodies hidden in the five minute work. A real delight!

  18. I have heard a suite from Kije, how many pieces are available from that score?

    There is a 21 minute suite which Prokofiev arranged for concert orchestra after the fact. I suspect the OST is not easy to obtain. There was nothing even close in 1934.

    Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge - Benjamin Britten

    Fantastic string orchestra piece. For me, Britten was one of the quintessential 20th century composers. His music tremendously moves me.

    I'm not a big Bruckner fan so no. I'm not actually sure if I've heard that symphony, period. wink
  25. An hour ago I was doing the dishes and the radio played "Symphonie Nr. 6 Pastorale" as recorded at last year's Beethoven festival in Bonn. I sat in the kitchen long after I was finished with the dishes. I just couldn't turn away from that beautiful music.

    Also a bit intense and "screamy" at times, but with some really good highlights. The music also has another dimension after I saw the Cirque de Soleil show itself at the Dolby theatre in LA a few months ago.

    Piano Sonata No. 1 in F-sharp minor - Robert Schumann

    Not a big Schumann fan but I do enjoy this piece.

    Cheesy as hell, but fun. Rimbert was an expert at these 'library music' type of synth melodies in the 70's and 80's.
