    One of the "supergroups" of the 80's consisting of major prog rock star. It's occasionally a demanding listen, but I love this stuff! PROG ROCK 4-EVER!

    I loved that ( still like it too ) and bought the 45rpm single when it was in the charts here in the UK, in fact, unless my memory is a bit faulty I also bought jean Michel Jarre's Oxogene, Meco's Star Wars ( I was initially very disappointed this wasn't the version used in the film shame ), Donna Summers The Deep and Marvin Hamlisch's Bond 77.....all on 45's.


    Did you know Moroder did a 16 minute disco version of Stu Phillip's "Battlestar Galactica"? You can get this peculiarity alongside Meco's Star Wars adaptations for 4 € here:

    One of the most seminal albums of the 90's goa/psytrance movement in electronica. I wonder what happened to MWNN aka Martin Freeland. This is some funky shit! (although more 'lean' than other artists in the same genre).

    NP: Marek & Vacek live (Universal Poland)

    "Marek & Vacek" was a Polish boogie-woogie piano duo that specialized in transforming classical music into boogie-woogie and swing music. There are solo recordings and others accompanied by a rhythm group. I prefer the latter. Sadly there has been only one CD release of studio recordings in Germany in the middle 80s but in more recent years two additional CDs were released in their native Poland.

    Marek & Vacek enjoyed popularity throughout western Europe during the 70s and early 80s. Wacław Kisielewski (Vacek) died tragically in 1986 in a car accident. Marek Tomaszewski went on teaching at the Paris music accademy.

    Marek and Vacek belong to the musical heroes of my early childhood. My parents would buy LPs and one time take me to a concert of these piano magicians. That concert experience is still engraved into my memory.

    The above concert was recorded in 1975 in Berlin (West) at the Philharmonie.

  8. I have veered away from film music since yesterday, diving into other areas of personal interest such as progressive rock, krautrock and electronica.

    I listened to the first album of Ash Ra Tempel (1971) yesterday and then did a surway of my Tangerine Dream collection including complete runs of their early albums Zeit (Time), Atem (Breathing) and Alpha Centauri. Radical, experimental, cool!

    NP: Shadowlight (2013) by Klaus Schulze. Nice stuff, if you can appreciate the nuances in the layering of these ambient loops and sequences. Lisa Gerrard contributes vocals among others. The vocals have an Arabic hue to them that provides a nice contrast to the electronic background.

    Later this week I expect Schwingungen (Vibrations) by Ash Ra Tempel and Wolf City by Amon Düül II.

    And away I am into space ...

    Up until fairly recent I'd have thought I was the only one who'd mention any of those bands Volker ( Well, except for the very popular Tangerine Dream ). You reminded me of one of my favourite Amon Dull ii tracks from an album I no longer have, Viva la Trance.

    This always reminded me of one of Mike Oldfield's instrumental flights of fancy such as Hergest Ridge part 2 though the Amon Dull ii track is from a few years earlier.

    With no Amon Dull I may have to play some Hawkwind later cool

  10. A question.

    I was listening to Transvision Vamp's "Baby I Don't Care" and there was a sudden cut-off of the song after 4+ minutes in my digital file. I am not familiar with the song at all on album or single version. If there is anyone (of a certain age) who knows this song better than me, do they know whether, on album, there is an abrupt cut to the next song on the album? I am assuming that this is the case at the moment. But my file may be somehow missing the end of the track otherwise.

    I'd actually forgotten that it was Wendy James, honest!

    A bridge from psychedelic to progressive rock. Outstanding! On par with everything that was going on in that field of rock music back then. Prog forever!

  18. Got an "updated" album of my all time favourite rock band Barclay James Harvest today. A concert they did in Berlin (East) back in 1987, called "Glasnost". It was the first open air gig of an English speaking band in the eastern part of the city. Or so they say, I never checked that. The original CD was released in 1988. The new edition features the complete concert on two CDs in correct running order. Like an expanded score, really.

    Just listened on YouTube to Goro Yamaguchi Dipicting Cranes in their Nest. This music was contained in the Voyager golden records and in the Cosmos soundtrack. Yet I don't think I need no own that on CD.

    It helps to have a good stomach for fairly dissonant (yet still tonal) music. It's good stuff but still an acquired taste. Certainly more accessible than a lot of twelve-tone stuff, though.
