  2. Music of the Spheres by Mike Oldfield

    I'm not a big fan of everything Oldfield did lately. I hated Light & Shade in 2005 and Tubular Beats appears superfluous and a money grab to me yet I still have to check that out.

    Anyway: Music of the Spheres (2008): The melodies of Mike Oldfield meet with the orchestration and sound engneering qualities of Carl Jenkins and that is a marriage made in heaven. Soprano Hayley Westenra features alongside Lang Lang.
    This brilliant orchestral album is highly recommended for score collectors.

  5. Tim, have you ever heard of the UK Prog Rock band, Babe Ruth?

    I caught a UK 70's rock programme on BBC4 and they were on singing "Black Dog". First time I'd heard them and I thought that this song was excellent. Listening to some clips "The Runaways" sounds excellent also.

    Any comments?

    I used to be a huge fan of The Connells before film music stole all my attention. Took a trip down memory lane today and listened to several of the songs, and I enjoyed them as much today as I used to 15 years ago when I was a fan.

    Anyway, right now I'm listening to this song. If you want to be in a great mood, give it a listen. Or get the album. One of the best albums in history for certain.

    Here's another goodie.

    Anyway, guess I can't post about The Connells without one of my alltime favourite songs.

    How'd I miss this? Yes I have heard of them Alan and I even had that album ( on a tape ) recorded from a friend. Haven't heard them in years.

    Edit: I see First Base is quite cheap on Amazon, I think I'll have to get me one.

  11. You should try and catch the BBC4 programme on iPlayer. It was interesting to see so many bands that I had never heard of!

    A man with exquisite taste! beer I recommend the whole album. It's excellent from beginning to end.

    I've never really listened to the lyrics, but the music video is pure nostalgia.

    Hehe, indeed, Timmer. Since my gf is English I hear countless English colloquialisms every time we speak; many of them hilarious and bizarre when analyzed. She doesn't even think about it when she uses them, but when they are new to me I take them at face value, and it can lead to a lot of confusion and fun.

    English is indeed a fantastic language.

    "Wet" is fine, but "moist" is a definite no-no.

    One of my favourite RVW symphonies, a powerful, violent and yet so poignant work.

  19. Now that google made me aware of Dougals Adam's 61st birthday I just had to play all versions of Journey of the Sorcerer by Berny Leadon that I have:

    The original recording from "One of these Nights" (The Eagles) that was used in the original radio play.

    The version performed by Mark Eyres for Silva Screen, that blends characteristics of the original recording with those of the TV-Version by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.

    The one by Jolby Talbot, to be found on the feature film soundtrack. I resembles the Atari like elctronica beeps of the TV version very nicely.

    I never found out for shure if the music recorded by the BBC RPW for the tv show has ever been released on CD.

    His first solo album. I like both ABOUT FACE and ON AN ISLAND more, but it has some good tracks. It's a much "drier" sound here.
    I am extremely serious.

    Wonderful album that I bought wayyyyyy back in 1984 and have now replaced with CD, this album is about as gothic as it can get, amongst the artists featured is....

    LISA GERRARD ( I doubt most people here knew of her until Gladiator )

    My favourite track though is this staggeringly beautiful version of a Tim Buckley song sung by Liz Fraser...

    A fantastic solo album from the Roxy Music front man features quite a few star performers including Nile Rogers, David Sanborn and Mark Knopfler.

    I think my favourite track is this lovely and ethereal effort featuring the one and only Dave Gilmore on guitar...
