    Piano Trio No. 7, "Ghost" - Beethoven

    A surreal experience to listen to this. I performed it in my senior year at college, spent months working on it with a cellist and violinist. I haven't really heard it in ten years and listening to it again is bringing those wonderful memories flooding back.

    (This professional recording is of course more polished but for students with limited resources and time, we did a great job.)

    Errr, yes he did, a top 5 hit in 1975 here in the UK ( produced no less than by ELO's Jeff Lyne fer shame on him shame )

    It would be no good coming here, the Brits have a nasty habit of indulging one hit wonder novelty acts, frankly I'm surprised those two weren't household names over here already rolleyes

    As a grammar school student I saw the series. A mate of mine owned the LP and made me a cassette which I played to death.

  21. It comes in in phases. It's not like I am listening to THE BEATLES everyday, every week or even every month. But once a year I experiance a two-week-phase of BEATLES overload.

    (The same goes for ABBA but don't you tell anyone, right?)

    I used to have four albums but when those gorgeous remasters were released a few years ago, I could not resist: The albums, the Past Masters, the "red" and "blue" compilation. Also the "Love" album. But that's it, nothing apocryphal, just the canon.

    I just gives me a good feeling, that these legendary albums are all sitting right there on my shelf.

    I don't know the orchestra or the conductor, but it looks like a *fine* album.

    I'm just not to sure about the inclusion of Take The A Train, which seems a bit too easy: it is THE perennial Duke Ellington crowd pleaser, and thus seems a bit out of place here. But it's a CD that would definitely get a few spins from me!

    I listen to the Beatles very, very regularly, and -though not in the same league- I have always been a huge ABBA apologist: as camp as they were considered by the pop and rock scene in the eighties and early nineties, so brilliant are so many of their songs and melodies. In fact, I have a great many friends in the music business who'll swear Ulvaeus/Andersson's songs will echo through the ages!
    I can't say I necessarily disagree. smile

    But The Beatles are just in a league of their own.

    I never gave that much thought but you could be right although the way it's arranged fits right in the style. The Buffalo orchestra is superb, soloists top notch. Since 'A' train is an American song (during the war the 'A' stood for America not the subway system) I found it rather fitting that there was a fiddle solo as part of the work to give it an Americana flavor.

    I just discovered some fantastic music by a german dude called Jo Blankenburg. I believe he has made some music used in several blockbuster trailers, but these two pieces I discovered was rather different from trailer music. Very minimalistic and medidative, which is rarely my cuppa tea. It even has some sound effects like waves on a beach, which I normally loath, but I think it works perfectly here.

    Try this track. It takes a while to really get going. so if you don't have patience to listen to the whole track skip to 6:43. It's especially the repetitive guitar melody that plays from 7:13-8:45 and again at 12:02 to the end that makes me love this piece, but after having listened to it some times I also love the more quiet parts.

    Oh, and from the same album, this one is a fantastic listen as well.

    I loved that ( still like it too ) and bought the 45rpm single when it was in the charts here in the UK, in fact, unless my memory is a bit faulty I also bought jean Michel Jarre's Oxogene, Meco's Star Wars ( I was initially very disappointed this wasn't the version used in the film shame ), Donna Summers The Deep and Marvin Hamlisch's Bond 77.....all on 45's.
