Well, it seemed like Jacob's enemy wasn't "allowed" or could not kill Jacob, and thus he had to find an indirect way. It sounded to me like everything was a well-executed and orchestrated plan from Jacob's enemy, until the day he would kill Jacob. He had to bring both Ben and John right to that point in time, in that form, character and emotions for everything to work out.
Think about Ben. None of us would ever imagine he was in fact so weak (in terms of emotions). Yet as his story unfolded, we saw he was something a lot more than the leader of Others. Both his past as a child and his adult life, ranging from the banishment of Charles Widmore, to the adoption of Alex, to her death, to Ben turning the wheel, the death of John Locke and his apparent "resurrection", led to Ben being in the right state of mind to kill Jacob.
And John came to be from a hopeless paralysed man to the future leader of a mysterious island. Only his reign was cut short, whilst he continued following blindly orders around. He was manipulated thanks to his blind faith in destiny, which came from the simple fact that John felt bad about his life. He had to believe he was destined for something more, otherwise his life was worthless. And indeed, he was destined for something more: He was destined to die, so that Jacob's enemy could "borrow" him at the right time, having the perfect amount of influence on Ben.
Jacob's enemy orchestrated these two weak characters, these two puppets, into the execution of a plan he had a mind all along: Killing Jacob. -

If you put that much effort into some sort of national security intelligence job, you'd be a regular Jack Ryan. -

The frog that Sawyer killed in Season 2 or 3. It killed a bit of me too. It was not necessary.

American literature.
(It was neither an insult or a compliment. Something in the middle I guess.

Well the lit character sounds a lot more interesting!
Well, Lost does trigger parts of the brain I think, that would otherwise remain unused. That was my theory and point of view about Jacob's enemy. Shall I assume that you agree with what I said, or not? Anyone else got a different story on the "loophole" btw? -

I agree with your theory as well; but they better come up with some pretty good explanations on season 6 on who the fudge is that evil guy and why he had to go through all that trouble and take us with him watching his jourey of 5 years, in order to come back and Kill Jacob.

Because occasionally something interesting is said, say, release dates of a new season or discussions about the technical aspects of making this show. Sometimes even a thread that has absolutely no interest to me whatsoever may have something interesting in it. Yet analysing the story of Lost (which is just a TV show) to the Nth degree as though it were real life is not something that really appeals to me. In fact, although I hasten to add I have absolutely no problem with anyone deriving enjoyment from such discussions, it seems a little odd to me. -

Well, personally I believe (and I know for a fact that other Lost fans share the same state of mind) that Lost is supposed to draw this specific amount of interest and "over-analyzing". It's a form of entertainment, which encloses certain mysteries, surprises and twists. If you don't talk about it afterwards, then I ask "What's the point watching it anyway?" I don't see why people should spend time discussing and analyzing a football match that is over or a concert or movie they've watched recently, but not spend any time analyzing one of their favourite and probably one of the best tv shows to be ever made. Besides if you are a Lost fan, I think it kinda follows that ideas and theories will cross your mind. If one doesn't like watching a tv show that would undoubtedly cause them to question the plot , then I don't think they would like Lost in the first place and thus would quit watching it.
It seems odd to you, fair enough, opinion accepted. And you are here to keep an eye on release dates, fair enough too. It just seems odd to me, that someone who is not willing to discuss a tv show (they are in fact watching) because it's not "real life", spends time on a forum commenting on other people online who do like to add their view on the show.

You know, I was thinking that if the hydrogen bomb HAS changed everything, then a lot of the mysteries will remain unanswered. For example, if the plane never crushes on the island, it will not matter anymore why Cindy went with the Others or why Claire disappeared with Christian. And certain things would never happen, eg. Ben would not have his tumour operation. Locke would not arrive to lead the Others. Jacob would not be killed.
So, I'm thinking that the bomb was perhaps the incident and it also sends the Losties back in present as well. Or perhaps a few minor things have changed since the plane crashed. -

UP TO A POINT I don't find it odd discussing a show's plot. I mean, why not discuss it? What I don't do, as a Lost fan, is give much time to any theories that cross my mind at the time of watching an episode. So yes, I copulate my own theories as would most people who follow the story I would imagine, that's what a mystery story should do.... I just don't give that much thought to them after I've finished the episode. I'm perfectly happy just to wait and see what the writers come up with and personally (a major emphasis on that word) I just don't see the point of becoming that concerned with them.
To answer your hypothetical 'If you don't talk about it afterwards, then I ask "What's the point watching it anyway?"', then I in turn ask do I have to talk about it to enjoy it within my own terms? I enjoy many films and shows that I don't feel the need to talk about.
All I'm saying is PERSONALLY I find it odd that anyone devotes so much time and effort in theories and over-analyses of a fictional show. That's just how I feel.
By the way, the very idea of analysing a football game just leaves me dumbfounded to no end. -

Steven, it seems like we agree on a lot more than you think then
You've explained yourself better now, so you like thinking about it too and discussing it. Obviously, I do it to a greater extend. What can I say? It keeps some of my juices flowing!
And yes, there is a far greater majority who spends time arguing about football games, than discussing time, destiny, fate and all the other life issues that Lost raises through its plots.
Anthony, point taken!
I write a lot sometimes as I try explaining fully my ideas, so that others can add to them or disagree with them. I like stating the reasons for example behind a liking or disliking of a certain episode, instead of just saying "I hated it!".
I used to be in another forum some time ago and certain people used to sign in simple to say "This character was annoying once more!" or "This episode sucked again". I just find it unfair to the show and to the other posters.
I will try to keep them shorter though.
And they are always sweet!!

Well, to show what the incident was. Why the survivors crashed. How badly they all want a normal life after all.
The more I keep thinking about it though, I doubt Daniel would be so mistaken. He said people were the variables. And he spend 3 years studying this whole thing off the island. Perhaps the bomb did change some things, but not the greater picture. Maybe fate (or Jacob!) is after all stronger and did want the Losties on that island. -
