It's exciting, i agree. I think lots of people bear negativity against it, due to the huge popularity perhaps? The show is one of the best things to have happened to tv, ever.

I don't think it's as bad as its detractors describe it (who'd have thought that Southall would have an overly harsh opinion towards something he doesn't like!? Oh noes! shocked ), but then I don't think it's as good as its mega-fans say it is either.
I'm sort of in between. It's silly, but it's very good silliness.

The first couple seasons were extraordinary. No doubt about it! But, IMHO, it's been all down hill since. Like, James, I keep coming back to it even though it is one of the most frustrating and terribly written shows I've ever watched. Damn I miss Dexter!

Apart the previous season which was somewhat of a transition period from point A to B and dragged at large parts, there's nothing bad with the show. People, it started in 2004! Years have passed and everything surrounding the show, changed. From the producers, actors and writers, to tv culture and the whole world in general. It's changing along, it's called evolution and it's pretty natural. If you stopped being nostalgic of the first 2-3 seasons (yes they are great, who would argue?!?) you might as well enjoy the ride. There's no reason in bitching about it.

^ That's no excuse. And no one is pulling the nostalgic card. All we want is a good TV show and the past few seasons of LOST have NOT been good. This is like defending the HORRIBLE Star Wars prequels because the writers, producers, actors, technology, etc change... for the worse. Total BS, Demetris!

No relation. It's the same show changing into different directions, it's not something else which wants to be like Lost. What explanation from the writers did you expect about all that, really? Aliens? It's the best i could think of to be honest.

The show just gets better and better with each season. I don't know what you saw in the first season, Erik, but I believe it's been pretty consistent throughout. Perhaps you just 'read' the series differently in the beginning, thought it was about something else? (Aliens, yes?)

I don't care what the explanation is. Actually, I do, but that's not the reason for my distaste in the program. It's just become to convoluted. There are too many characters and way too much happening. You can't keep track of everything.

What I saw in the first season were a small batch of characters that I actually cared about. I cried during the launch of the raft because 1) I cared about the people on the boat and 2) Giacchino's music was so damn good. I haven't had a feeling like that in the past two episodes no matter how sappy they make the montage or how hard Giacchino tries to get more mileage out of the Oceanic theme.

And once you start introducing time travel you are asking for nothing but trouble!

Anthony you gonna love the new theme!
kate and claire's theme
And Giacchino introduce some kind of japanesse harp to play jack's theme!!! A great move!

    the
kate and claire arc
sucks! but....

    X : "Did I say something funny?"

Y: I dont think so. You don't have sense of humour.

    rocks! ahahahahahha punk punk punk

I wish the director of this episode will be working in some McDonalds all his life..

PS: Erik, If you don't follow every clue of this show, you can't be annoyed by it. But when you do, you only can say " Bravo" to the writters. I understand if anyone doesn't have patience or time to do that, but when you do then you watch more than "time travels" and "others"...

Ah, I get that, and that's a good reason. Personally, I found season 1 was brilliant though a bit slow sometimes in character development. I like how it's become more intricate and complex, both plotwise and characterwise. In fact, I even liked that some annoying characters (Shannon!) were killed off, and I found all new characters really interesting. One thing where the show hás changed is the time allowed for each character to be developed etc. And that mainly started in Season 4, which is an abbreviated season, and you can tell. Two consequences are that there's less time to get a grasp on the characters and their development both personalitywise and plotwise, which is a negative presumably, but also that there has been explained more, and more rapidly, which presumably is a positive, given how many people were complaining that they weren't being given any solutions, only questions. While I've really enjoyed season 4 and 5, probably more than the first three (also brilliant though), I always thought they were 1/3 too short.
And re: the ending of season 1, the opening of the hatch had a way larger impact on me than the raft departure (which was clearly going nowhere fast smile).

So, now we have a dark side in Lost too. Well, it has provided Claire with a good aim, no doubt about it.

  1. Here's what I think. Sure it's a spoiler thread, but I still like these:
The man in black is death, or some kind of god of death. Every dead person that has come back at some point on the island has been controlled by him, or is doing what he wants. Take Echo's brother for example. He comes back, tells Echo to confess, he refuses and then is immediately killed by the smoke monster (man in black). Ben is judged by the man in black (smoke monster) and then immediately sees his daughter who tells him to do everything the man in black says (though he thinks it's Locke). When the real Locke needed to find the cabin he was told how to find it by a dead guy who had a map to it in his pocket. When he got to the cabin (which we know hadn't been used by Jacob for some time) he finds Christian, who has been working for the man in black all along. Claire was hanging out with Christian and we now know that she has been taken over by this "dark side" as marselus calls it. The French woman's team all had the same thing happen to them after they died. Now Said died and came back as a bad guy who will do what the man in black wants. Everyone who dies is in this guy's power. Which, if true, means that Claire died.
That is all.

    No it's not. Here's a gripe:
Why is it that all the "others" at the temple seem to understand that when Jacob dies they're in danger of being attacked by the smoke monster (whom they refer to as "him" right?)? They understand that there's another god-like being on the island that Jacob is keeping them safe from? Why didn't Ben understand that? He was the leader. If every Tom, Dick, and Harry at the temple understands how bad it is that Jacob is dead, why would Ben kill him for the simple reason that he never let Ben meet him? It seems like your own safety should be considered over that. Additionally, if Ben knew what the people at the temple seem to know, wouldn't he know the guy who wants him to kill Jacob is at least working for the bad guy?
.

I´m looking forward to know how did Claire die. When was the last time we saw her alive (season 4?) and how did she disappear? I can´t remember.

She didn't die. She just walked off in the middle of the night after seeing Christian.

The last time we saw her was in Jacob's cabin in Cabin Fever (and later in Kate's dream in There's No Place Like Home part 3).
