Such similarities don't bother me either as they're a) overrated anyway and b) not something I think about very much as long as I like the music.
    I am extremely serious.

Quite. It will take quite something to knock it off my own "Best of 2012" list.

    Journey 2 - Andrew Lockington

I'm listening to this again to try to write a review. It's a funny one because even though it has plenty of entertaining passages, I can't ever see myself listening to it again once I finish the review.

    NP: ALIENS (James Horner)

Far from the best moment to play this -- it's sunny and spring temperatures outside (although lots of snow) -- but I've decided to go through my Horners in my iTunes. And they start with A.

It's such a lovely sunny day I can't think of a score I'd like to play less than ALIENS ( well, except for scores that I don't like wink )

I know. It was a bad idea, so I postponed the whole thing.

Some days simply don't mesh with certain scores, no matter how hard you try.

    By far smile

As for the similarities thingy, it's an overkill for me; too much thinking kills fun and pleasure; i stopped digging into things so much 'cause it's meaningless in the end. When a composer esp.in his league (Silvestri, Newman, Williams etc) writes for film for over 30 years, it's logical; i would take passion and themes like this over any "new" drones on auto-pilot that pass along as film scores these days.

n.p. ROBERT FOLK - There be dragons

    Mindblowingly good.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

There is one problem for me. When I like a movie and the score, or a particular theme attached to a character and then the composer use that theme (or a version of it) in another movie without over-thinking my mind goes to my favorite character from the previous movie.
If I don't see the movie and these days I rarely see a movie then I don't have any problem.

Smart and sophisticated horror score. Not sure I enjoy it all that much though.

Star Trek VI - Cliff Eidelman

A good score and album, but of all the expanded Star Treks, this is the one which has benefited least from the expansion.

    Today I listened:

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - Alexandre Desplat
Very good, an emotional score by Desplat.

    Perfect Storm - James Horner
One of my favorite Horner score.

    Eragon - Patrick Doyle
    Great theme.

  2. Some cues from "The X-files: The Truth and the Light" CD, to see if I split the stereo channels I could remove the dialogue over some cues, sadly, much of the speaking panned to both channels, echoes into another, or fades in and out, so no go.

I would re-buy a DIALOGUE FREE version in a HEARTBEAT.

I've always appreciated Desplat's music, and Benjamin Button has been a favourite of mine ever since its release - but it's only recently where I've become comfortable (and therefore been able to enjoy) Desplat's style. When I'm in the mood for it, Desplat floats my boat.
  3. I wonder if "double-dipping" Speed and Jennifer 8 was worth it...

    Transformers Prime - Brian Tyler

An enjoyable Zimmerish power anthem serves as the main theme, but 20 minutes in and all I've heard is 20 minutes of repeats of the same theme over and over again. And there are still 55 minutes to go. A soul-destroying prospect. Still, it's a billion miles better than the junk in the Transformers movies. A bit like saying that eating a kilogram of fresh dog shit is better than eating a kilogram and a half of fresh dog shit, I know, but c'est la vie.

Why force yourself to even a micro ounce of dog shit? Why not just find a Bernstein or Morricone you've never heard before?

Cute, but not very engrossing. Seems a bit autopilot for Williams.
