JP : TIN TIN - John Williams

Like others here it took a while to get into this one, I think it's one of those scores that's a real 'grower', still nowhere near my recent favourite Williams, WAR HORSE.

I like both equally (I think). Tintin has been one of my most listened to albums in quite some time.
  1. Finished up:
    "Johnny Mneumonic"
    By: Brad Fiedel

With only just over 20 minutes on the boot, it was a shame -- the score is actually interesting and enjoyable. It's very much akin, I would say, to some late '80's Goldsmith efforts, with electronics thrown in a very Jerry way. And of a course a little mroe modern sounding.

The Postman - James Newton Howard

One of his best scores from the 90'. I like it more than Waterworld .
  2. Freedom Song - James Horner, Sweet Honey in the Rock

This really isn't a score per se. It's more a collection of negro spirituals and hymns performed by Sweet Honey in the Rock, with Horner as producer. As such, it's pretty engaging; any project where Horner works with vocals is bound to be good.
  3. Listening to samples of Carter Burwell's BREAKING DAWN.
Not working for me. There's stronger scores from Burwell that push traditional film music buttons.

    Troy (Horner)

I don'r care for the main theme featured in the second track, but otherwise it's a fine score, especially considering that he only had a couple of weeks to do it. So far my favourite track is "Achilles leads the myrmidons". I need to get to know this score better though.

NP: THE LAST RUN (Jerry Goldsmith)

One of my favourite JG soundtracks. Never seen the film, though.

This score features one of my all time favorite main themes! Adventure scores don't come much better than this folks! Splendid music!

Agreed. "Swimming", in particular, which is JNH in one of his greatest modes, the ethereal synth textures. If you like that, you'd love THE SAINT OF FORT WASHINGTON, I think.

Good music to write to. smile Love his chamber orchestral style and how he's used it from film to film.

    Gorgeous...
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

He definitely has a sound, but there's strong diversity in that, and he's really the only one doing what he does in film music. His scores will sound like they came from him.

Between Heaven and Hell - Hugo Friedhofer

One of the finest scores by one of the greatest of film composers. Lush melody combines with arrestingly aggressive action music (I can scarcely believe it was written in the 1950s).

Damn! This reminded me that the film was on TV this afternoon and I missed it.

Of course. Sadly the sound is dire, but it's good music.

NP: TOMORROW NEVER DIES (David Arnold)

I can only take Arnold's bombasticism in so many doses, but this is a really good soundtrack. Great main theme and funky rhythms.
    I am extremely serious.
  6. Mark Mancina - Speed 2: Cruise Control

Got the La-la Land release since yesterday. A great, exciting and somehow more intelligent twist on the usual Media Ventures sound. A 98-piece orchestra which gets quite a bit of workout. Great themes, very well orchestrated, including a rarity for the style, which are woodwinds. Mark Mancina is a hugely missed talent. While I can imagine that Bad Boys isn't everyone's cup of tea, but this score is just a gem which finally got released and kudos to the label for releasing it two years ago. Yes, late on the bandwagon and I wasn't exactly not aware of the score before, but yeah, it's very goo.

Starring Norwegian football star Halvard Thoresen, among others. Not quite as big as co-star Pelé, obviously, but still.

This is absolutely great. Herrmann-esque suspense, romantic charm and one of the biggest, most rousing finales you can imagine.
