I would love to hear a David Arnold take on Star Wars though.
Listen to ID4 or Arnold and Kiner's score to Wing Commander.

BTW, did anyone else read today that Carrie Fisher has agreed to sign on to the next Star Wars film? Surely not.
She told a fan that she was doing it, but her agent issued a statement that it was a joke. Which probably means she's doing it but nothing has been signed yet. I'll be very happy if all of the big 3 return. I'm sure they can get back in shape.
What for? So we can see grandma Leia in slave costume? -

And what makes you think that Arnold would do any different for Star Wars? That's Arnold trademark sci-fi sound in those two scores above. That's what his Star Wars music would sound like.

NP : POLTERGEIST - Jerry Goldsmith
Not much I can say about this score that hasn't been said before except that if you haven't heard it then you are truly missing out on one of the greatest scores of the 1980's.

It's more like, I want him to get back to/have the chance at doing a purely orchestral score again, with healthy dose of melodies and themes. That possibility, versus snoring/rolling my eyes to Desplat, is better for me as a consumer of movie scores. -

I thought "Wing Commander" was entirely composed by Kiner except for the Main Theme. A fantastic theme by the way.

One of Goldsmith's greatest achievements. A truly excellent score. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

That score was Kiner channelling Arnold all the way. Tell me how that score sounds any different than Stargate or ID4.? It's almost like Badelt on Pirates.

So, I came round to listening to "Rise of the Guardians" anyway. Not only that is is a teriffic composition, it also has the trade mark sound of the LSO all over it. I could spend the whole night listening to that brass section play fanfares!Bach's music is vibrant and inspired. -

Now, does "Wing Commander" sound like "ID4" or like "Pirates?" That's somewhat contradictory, isn't it?
By the way, I believe that "Godzilla" is Arnold's most Star-Wars-sounding score.

Well, I do like his work on "Clone Wars". Didn't like that pilot album, though. But as the show continues I keep hearing interesting music. I wouldn't want him to do the upcoming SW film, but I would welcome another release of "Cone" music.

There will never be a universe where the Beebs will be the grandson of Leia.

Its interesting that both of the leading candidates can have criticisms leveled against their recording methods.
Hopefully its not something totally out of left field that's deemed to be "edgy" and "modern" like Gregson-Williams or one of the pop/rock artists like Reznor. That would be truly terrifying

Yes, but he's perceived that way by some people, in the same way that Rob Cohen thought BT's score for his film Stealth was a unique blending of orchestral and electronic elements that had never been done in a film score before, in the same way that that infamous test audience thought Yared's score to Troy was too old-fashioned, at which point they hired Horner to basically write the exact same score, only much worse. In other words, you can't trust film industry people not to think stupid stuff about what's likely to please modern audiences.I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to! -

Actually, Cohen has a point. The synth/orchestra blend is not new (Zimmer, anyone?), but the blend of orchestral music and elements of hardhitting trance/house does not come about very often -- and when they have, it's usually been by two different composers, like Oakenfold and Young on SWORDFISH.I am extremely serious. -

Well, that isn't what Cohen said. Maybe he's just bad at describing music, lol. I don't know enough about trance/house to know if there are elements on it in the Stealth score. It sounds nearly exactly like another HGW/Djawadi/Morris score to me. In fact Morris was an additional music guy on it.I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to! -

STEALTH definitely has pronounced trance elements more than I've heard in any other RC-inspired score. In fact, I don't think it sounds like Remote Control at all. It's simply its own thing.I am extremely serious. -
