I haven't heard this one, Tim. And, looking through some clips, the OST itself seems a bit too synthy for me. But I did come across "Silk Road Suite"
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silk-Road-Suite … mp;sr=1-21
It seems like this is a collection of tracks from the 2 original Silk Road CDs being played by the LSO. Have you come across this one? And, if you have, have you any opinions? The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Cheers!
I am wondering if the LSO version is less "abrasive" to the ears but still captures some of the feel of the original.
Here's a YouTube link to a full track:

Really nice! I couldn't put my finger on it but it reminds me of something else?? Maybe a theme by John Barry or Jerry Goldsmith? Only a hint and probably not intentional. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

I ended up buying "Silk Road Suite". I much preferred the orchestral arrangements in this rather than the original, synth version. I think I'll probably buy it too. As for the original I have quite nostalgic feelings for it.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

Oh yes, the hint of a theme I can hear is John Barry's 'Wednesdays Child' from THE QUILLER MEMORANDUM......I must admit it's very tenuous though

NP: The First Grader - Alex Heffes
A piece was performed from this score in Ghent and I remembered it afterwards as being particularly moving. The rest of score is much of the same. Lovely stuff. -

I recently watched the film om Sky Anytime, and it was... alright. But I agree, the score is really good!
I didn't like the film much at all. The score seemed improbably similar to David Shire's The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3. -

NP: Lethal Weapon - Michael Kamen
I watched this superb film again last night! I love these series of films... I even have a soft spot for the fourth one. Kamen's scores are great! Clapton and Sanborn's contributions were a stroke of genius and the action music is killer! "Hollywood Blvd. Chase" is among the top action cues ever written for the silver screen! It's a cue a composer probably wouldn't be able allowed to write for this sort of film nowadays. Bobby Fernandez's recording is also magnificent!
Here's hoping that one of the big film music labels out there gets a chance to re-releases the Bacchus limited edition for those that missed out on it the first time.
Great stuff!

I haven't listened to this one for ages?! It's one of the many unfortunate casualties of having "too" much music in my library.
This is a brilliant score.

THAT'S a girlfriend. She deserves a little some extra now. Maybe a little gift, some flowers.

NP: The Magnificent Seven - Elmer Bernstein
Track after track of film scoring gold! As well as the great title theme I remember getting goosebumps when I first heard the music that accompanies Calvera and his band of merry men away from the screen.
A wonderful score - and I am so pleased that Bernstein revisited this score (practically note-for-note) in Return of The Magnificent Seven and this time in stereo! The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

More concert hall sound though. Why again was The Magnificent Seven re-used and re-recorded for the sequel?

I don't know why it was re-used. But I notice that Bernstein received an Academy Award nomination for both scores!
If I had both CDs to hand I could check the liner notes to see if there's any mention why. But they are both packed away in boxes.

Erik, an old post by "MusicMad" over at FSM in 2008 said this about The Magnificent Seven/The Return of the Magnificent Seven:
"...the movie [The Magnificent Seven] did not do well in its home market and hence no original score was released at the time (1960). After much better showings in Europe a follow up movie in 1966 allowed Bernstein to re-visit his original themes..."
He goes on to speculate that reuse of music may have been a cost-cutting exercise because of the poor performance of the original film in the US.The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

it is indeed mindblowing stuff, kick ass action music, in Lethal Weapon 3 there's a terrific (although not as brilliant as this) piece as well, namely the shootout in the subway station. That's the stuff that makes the Lethal Weapon movies legendary

NP: Poseidon - Klaus Badelt
Badelt's last big Hollywood score could have benefited from having a 50-60 minutes release. There's some good action/suspense/orchestral scoring here that weren't available on the official version.
