NP : THUNDERBALL - John Barry
Not a score I often played all the way through ( a little too much 'underwater music' ) but the action music is corking! This is the score where JB took his 007 theme to giddying new heights, from a straight forward, though, most exhilarating interpretation '007' to the awesome theme & variations in the magnificent 'Underwater Mayhem'. Fabulous! On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

Jerry Goldsmith - Legend
Glad to own it, especially after seeing the director's cut of the film about a week ago. The brilliant score and visuals are the film's only saving graces. That and Tim Curry.
Tom Cruise has some particularly painful moments in the film...http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

It's a beautiful film to view, Tim Curry hams it in glorious pantomime style as Darkness, in fact a lot of it comes across as one big pantomime. I may have mentioned before that when I saw this on it's UK cinema release it was with Jerry Goldsmith's score, however, every viewing I've seen of this on terrestrial TV here in the UK has been the Tangerine Dream version.

113 minutes. It's the cut he prepared before it was re-cut and Jerry was rejected in USA. Then they made a slightly longer cut for Europe.http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

NP: DA VINCI'S DEMONS - SEASON 2 (Bear McCreary)
Much of the music is wonderful -- mixing beautiful vocals, period music and a lyrical, modern sensibility, but someone has GOT to shake some sense into ol' Bear. The album is two friggin' hours long, and wears out its welcome long, long before that. Geez. It's not like it's Wagner.I am extremely serious. -

Anyone that can take woodwinds, strings (bowed and strummed) and percussion and make it sound like a f__king rainforest is most definitely NOT writing simple music. Vibes is one of the most original, relaxing and satisfying albums of Horner's career. You have to be in a particular mood or state of mind to completely enjoy it but if you need something to calm the nerves then Vibes is the perfect remedy.

True. I get the sense he's very proud of his creations (which is fair enough) and wants to share as much as possible. He's certainly not the most modest of composers if his Facebook updates are anything to go by. (Although I do like his personality that comes across in his video blog and interviews.) -

One of the best fantasy scores. The tv miniseries is fine a adaptation of the book. I rank the novel with LoR and DUNE as one of my all time favourite books. The music is a perfect fit for novel and film.

A lot of the industry professionals (not only composers) brag on Facebook -- to a higher or lesser degree. Brian Tyler certainly makes sure to let us know about his awards and celebrity meetings and what-not. Same goes for a guy like Robert Townson etc.
Heck, many will claim Facebook is a venue for just that, no matter who you are, and I've done my fair share of plugging too. It's an arena for self-promotion in many ways. Which is fine. The trick is not to over-do it; to show that you're still 'grounded' in some form.I am extremely serious. -

Yeah, that's true. Though it's a little tiresome when most of his fans clamour at his feet whenever anything new is posted. He may as well be Jesus to them.

Good ol' Joel Goldsmith -- said he disliked "braggarts" on his website, which of course lead to my signature there, "Braggarts Annonymous". Classy in a way. I have a feeling though that some people aren't pretending to be grounded; next up: bragging about being grounded. The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -

Yeah, I hate 'adoration' like that. Tons of it when Zimmer posts too -- even if it's a funny picture of a camel smoking a cigarette or whatever. Zimmer, however, rarely brags like the others about his own work. Maybe once you become so big, you have no need to.I am extremely serious. -

'tis the nature of the beast, I think. The Facebook pages for Two Steps and Thomas Bergersen are similarly full of inane fan praise. I still check them out occasionally to see if there's anything new, though. -

NP: PASSION (Pino Donaggio)
The best sex thriller score since BASIC INSTINCT, IMO. Especially love the electronica bits.
You should give Whispers in the Dark a listen. It's the closest Thomas Newman ever got to scoring a horror film.
Thanks. Not too keen on horror film music in general, but the concept of T. Newman and sex thriller sounds exciting. Btw, he got pretty darn close to savage brutality in the track "The Terrible Death of Mr. Delacroix"(?) in THE GREEN MILE.
True. Probably the most horrifying piece he ever wrote. A close second is "Black Angel" from Angels in America. -

I find that tiring as well. He's a good composer but he's not a god and people treat him as such. Thor, do you have a track list for Da Vinci's Demons Season 2? -

NP: The Amazing Spiderman 2 (zimmer)
Fantastic on the first few cues. (Listening on spotify.) I'd agree with the praise about this one being Zimmer's strongest since Inception. (Meaning, if it goes down well, we'll be hearing it for many years to come in imitation.)A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

I think Lone Ranger is more enjoyable but of the scores where Zimmer himself actually seemed to give a shit (as opposed to Geoff Zanelli), I'd agree that Amazing Spider-Man 2 is the best since (and, indeed, better than) Inception. -
