I think Lone Ranger is more enjoyable but of the scores where Zimmer himself actually seemed to give a shit (as opposed to Geoff Zanelli), I'd agree that Amazing Spider-Man 2 is the best since (and, indeed, better than) Inception.
Didn't you actually dislike Inception, if not hate?
I found it okay. Nothing special. I'm really surprised at the acclaim it's garnered from corners that are usually not that supportive of this kind of Zimmer music. -

Easily and without a doubt the worst of the X-Men scores so far. How does a mess like this even happen?

While Inception is probably the Zimmer score that grew on me the most, when it comes to my initial reaction as opposed to how I see it now, I am also wondering why this one got so much love (except Clemmensen).http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

Because it's very good. Zimmer found the perfect tone for the film, and elevates many scenes because of the music. I'm not the biggest Zimmer fan, but I love this score. -

On a Goldsmith roll. I like that (only helped by the fact that I got some La-La Land goodness as review copies yesterday!).
I'd love a release of this with the actual film tracks. Great score and a bloody fine film too, you can do a lot worse than see this one.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

One of the best fantasy scores. The tv miniseries is fine a adaptation of the book. I rank the novel with LoR and DUNE as one of my all time favourite books. The music is a perfect fit for novel and film.
Volker
An excellent book and an excellent score. I've not seen the mini-series it was scored for.
I don't know if it will interest you but I highly recommend Bernard Cornwell's Warlord Trilogy, IMO the best novels based on the Arthurian legend that I've read.

Edge of Tomorrow - Christophe Beck
A couple of enjoyable ideas and moments, but overall very average and rather uninteresting score. You would assume that the whole 'repeat' idea could inspire Beck to repeat and develop his ideas, but no that would then fall into the category of complex filmmusic.

FSM recently repeated the album program. Something happened to the film tracks?
As much as the film is great and as much as the performances are quite heralded from the main players, I'd like to point out a brilliant, albeit not very long, turn-out by Ed Harris, I think it still ranks quite highly in his career, doesn't it?
It's single-handedly one of the best films Goldsmith scored.http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

According to Lukas:
We could not find any master tapes to use to expand the previously issued program ...The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -

Tim, you've gone down in my list of Top 20 film music messageboard posters!
This is a great album - which is lucky. I first heard this when I was at school. A group of us went from Falkirk up to a place called Bettyhill, which is right on the north coast of Scotland (funnily enough to paint the inside of a building owned by the University of Aberdeen - I've no idea why we had to do it). Me and a couple of others were taken the whole way in one of our biology teachers' cars* (a small Hillman Imp I think) and the teacher only had one tape in the car the whole way up: "Bat Out of Hell". It was great!

The 13th Warrior - Jerry Goldsmith
I stumbled upon the CDR someone gave me of this literally a few days after the recording sessions, months before the soundtrack was released and was surprised to discover it contained a large number of tracks not included on the official release (and misses some that were). So now I've combined the two albums to create this Southall Deluxe Edition, being listened to for the first time. -
