Best score of 2011. (Of what I heard anyway.)

I've never heard any of the scores for the first six films, but this is surely the best of the bunch.
This is my own 45 minute playlist taken from the GLORIOUS new recording from last year. This is an essential album for Goldsmith fans. -

War Horse is trusty good old Williams, elegant, emotional, melodic. Yet I found Tintin to be the "fresher", more original score. Great scores both!

Tintin was like almost all the other scores of 2011 - highly elaborate but ultimately forgettable. Only War Horse, The Artist, and The Tree of Life stand out to me. -

Ha! Tintin 'forgettable'. The theme is swimming around in my head on a daily basis. It's just one of those tunes that have stuck with me, much like Giacchino's Star Trek theme.
Superb score for a very entertaining and well-made film. -

Interesting. The Star Trek theme has haunted my thoughts for five years (it just appears inside my mental dialogue for no apparent reason, and lingers there well past its welcome, trying to convince me that any of the movie scenes that happened while it was playing should mean something important to me, and always failing).... but I haven't the slightest idea what the Tintin theme is...or even in what tracks it's found. The score always seems like reasonably entertaining but emminently forgettable mickey-mousing to my ears. I enjoy it while it's on but afterwards I don't really know what I just listened to. It's like the gag reel from the Indiana Jones series + Revenge of the Sith. It's good because it's Williams but that's all.
War Horse, on the other hand, was so moving and memorable it got stuck inside some of the most emotional moments of my life and is now part of my life soundtrack.I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to! -

One person's forgettable is another person's memorable. Personally I have no trouble recalling Tintin's theme at the drop of a hat...but it's not one that bounces around inside my head. Same with Giacchino's Trek theme. My head is too full of Powell melodies to let those two in.

I don't know how it's possible to have heard Giacchino's Trek theme and not have it in your head 24 hours a day 7 days a week. That's the point I'm at with that theme... thankfully, I still enjoy it. A lot.

Nope. It's good because it's good! Admittedly I felt very much the same when I first heard it, perhaps because I was hoping for something revolutionary from Williams' first animation score - but I've had a complete shift around of opinion since then. It's now one of my favourite Williams albums, largely because of its familiarity, yet still creating a voice of its own. It's hard to think of a score I've had quite a drastic change of heart towards as this one. -

NP: HATFIELDS & MCCOYS (John Debney & Tony Morales)
Unusually dark and twangy western score for this equally dark tale from the West. Saw the mini-series awhile back. Pretty good. However, the album is much too long for this type of music (78 minutes).I am extremely serious. -

Well, I am guilty of owning an album with 70s disco versions of famous movie themes. They turned everything into disco back then. There are the STAR WARS themes by Meco, also THE BLACK HOLE by Meco, a 17 minute BATTLESTAR GALACTICA disco suite by Giorgio Moroder (!) and SUPERMAN by Love Unlimited Orchestra. That evidently is not the version we hear here. Is it Meco? The LUO version is better as far as that can by said about such curiosities.
