I usually couldn't care less about 'extended universe' stuff, it's the films I enjoy. But I recently read this comment on imgur:

"Lightsabers get their color from the focusing crystal. Sith lightsabers aren't red because their users are evil, they're red because their users are impatient. Crystals manufactured industrially always produce a red blade whereas crystals produced in an artisanal fashion can be any color at all. The Jedi train people to prefer artisanal crystals."

It's a sure fire way to repel girls (unless they're into that sort of thing), but I actually rather like this idea.

Well that's certainly not part of any of the canon I'm familiar with. The color was simply determined by the color of the crystals which were mined on gas giants.

Also, why would you want to be with a girl who is repelled by that sort of thing? I mean, my own girlfriend would just be bored, but I don't have any interest in being friends or more with anyone who I have to actively suppress my interest / hobbies with.

Well, I don't mind the look, but practically speaking it's completely ridiculously pointless. Unless it has additional features that are not revealed by that little glimpse.

Pawel, what have you done to this thread? spin

Practically speaking it was pretty ridiculously pointless leaving a Millennium Falcon sized shaft in the Death Star leading all the way to the main reactor. wink

For sexy time. Still, for the purposes of a relationship, you're quite right of course.

Eh, practicality is overrated. Just look at the Millennium Falcon. I imagine it has a fuckton of blindspots... but do we care? No. It's the coolest spaceship in sci-fi history.

Star Wars is full of plot holes.

That's my last one, I promise.

Well, at that point the sexy times become little more than interactive porn. If there's no emotional connection, what's the point? If the other person doesn't like and respect me for who I am, nerdiness and all, how can there be an emotional connection? IMO of course, I realize this is not the majority viewpoint smile

You don't need to be in love to have a good time.

But I agree, it's much better!

I guess there is no way to explain rationally why the end of canonicity matters, but it does. Maybe wasted is not exactly the right word though.

Relish the opportunity to start and learn an entirely NEW canon!

*sigh* it's not about knowledge it's about feelings and attachments to characters. Now I will never know, for example how granddaughter Solo (also daughter of Sith Lord Jacen and the heir to the throne of Hapes, a fascinating combination) turns out, and that sucks.

So, really a joke about Jedi not forming attachments would be the more accurate way to mock wink

  2. Well, even Christian denominations don't agree on the Biblical canon, so what do I care. That pic was funny!

You know, Matt, you could just make up your own ending. Maybe write one yourself. People love that fan fiction stuff. It's all just extra, made-up-as-it-goes-along shit anyway. Why do you need a hack screenwriter to validate your own imagination?

    Making Contact - Paul Gilreath

This needs an album release, a really good paraphrase of James Horner's early 80s sci-fi/drama sound.

    Indeed.

A few weeks ago apparently Roger Feigelson hadn't heard it until he found the suite I put up, so hopefully now that it's got his attention, he'll be looking into it...

Shuffling my John Barry playlist has thrown up "Death of the Captain" from The Last Valley, which I think is the most beautiful cue he ever wrote.

It's great but I prefer his other score, Secret of The Sahara, in fact I far, far prefer it.
