I misjudged The Water Horse as well. After a few listens now, the boringness is somewhere in the middle, when the story seems not yet started. But then, the second half is great. The main theme breaths James Newton Howard on all levels. And Swimming is super.

Oh yeah! That track literally gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it. First time that's happened since I first listened to Return of the King in 2003. -

There are just waaaaay too many amazing cues in this score not to put it on the top 10. This is the James Newton Howard we know and love... welcome back old friend!!!
And the combined tracks of - There's No Monster/Saving Crusoe/The Net/The Jump/End of the Story - is the best finale I've heard on any score album this year!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOLKS. THIS IS GOLD!!!

NP: The Incredibles - Michael Giacchino
On a bit of a Giacchino binge here. Love that blaring brass and the funky sax in the main titles.
Great fun, and a great original (with a fair bit of love and respect for Barry and Mancini).'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Wow... not what I think at all. Slightly disappointing and bland overall, but a couple of obvious highlights which are excellent. Mostly it wants me to listen to what obviously made up the temp-track, Braveheart, Far and Away and The Horse Whisperer. -

I don't hear any of that... with the exception that there are celtic elements in the score. Bah! None of Howard's score sounds like the scores you mentioned. None of those scores themes or orchestrations are present. This is a JNH score from start to finish. His voice is plastered all over it!
But since I'm ignorant could you please point out where JNH ripped off the supposed temp track?

Not really, I believe it was a german telemovie that was well advertised those days. There was no way I could have overseen this, and I was looking for great medieval atmosphere scores at that time since I just started my Warhammer RPG campaign then.
Or did you mean lucky because of the long time? Yeah, I think so. Although I didn´t listen to it in years. Probably time to change that.

I thought Newfy was all Scottish, not Irish?
(Then again, I suppose it's all Celtic these days... about the only thing the Irish and Scots would agree on...)

Brian Tyler - Alien vs Predator: Requiem
Still a disappointment and yes, I think it's the case of my grudge with Tyler's music. I've been listening to the man for few days trying to look for a very strong style and found his best work, which as of now is Children of Dune. But then again, Children of Dune is also full of temp-track influences with Gladiator being the biggest one. Oh, well.
AVP: R is a very referential score, but the question of agreement is whether there are "cheaply copies" or not. And in the case of this score sadly it's the case of a track. Coprocloakia is one of the best track. Some of the most Tylerish moments of the score actually are taken from Silvestri's Predator. Horner's Aliens counts a lot in the influence, mostly in the underscore though, except Decimation Proclamation, where you almost get Futile Escape in the course. Alien Arrival refers to Horner, not Goldsmith. Lots of the orchestrational effects are Horner's idea too.
The biggest crunch I have and I *will* have with Brian Tyler is something Southall voiced and that is his originality. Ironically the composer that affects him the most is JAmes Horner. But this discussion I will move to his respective thread.http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website
