And I still haven't got into that score. Not a big fan of Asiany scores.

Oh I disagree. The Chiarman's Waltz and Confluence are classic Williams cues along with Becoming A Geisha. Those three are up there with his best.

NP : BIRTH - Alexandre Desplat

Thanks. I went to the concert both this year and last (with Scorsese and Spielberg) and loved them. Nice to hear it again.

NP: Murder is My Beat-Compilation of Noir

This is really a classic! In fact it is the only way to get some of these themes. It includes George Bassman's The Postman Always Rings Twice, Roy Webb's Crossfire and others.

NP: The soundbits from the two new JNH scores... commenting where it is proper very soon.

So what! It's just such a darned AWESOME piece of music! I can play this over and over and LOUD!


My second favourite piece on the album is The Light, a track that emanates such calmness and warmth amongst the violent chaos.

And Jordi, are you familiar with Christopher Young's Hellbound : Hellraiser II score?

NP: Treasured Island - Nicholas Dodd

First listen

The score sounds like any number of David Arnold works. A big, BIG sound with thick, dense orchestrations and some underlining electronics during the action cues that just doesn't seem to fit for a film of this type. Now, I say a big, BIG sound but that's not the case for the entire score. A lot of it is fairly ordinary filler music that isn't all that interesting. There's not a lot of thematic development as of yet as I'm only about half way through.

I treasure this collection of RCA releases more so than anything else in my collection. I go back to them more than anything else I own.

THE KINGDOM | danny elfman

Besides a couple of other scores, this one is defenitely one of 2007's the better scores.

Seriously, not that bad as some proclaim here.
It's more of what to like in terms of style. I like the techno influenced theme (kinda Planet of the Apes) and while I really like postrockshit, hereit doesn't do much. Sounds much more flat and it is surrounded by a simple, somehow annoying melody to me. It doesn't create the atmosphere I liked in Explosions of the Sky for example.

NP: The Empire Strikes Back: Symphonic Suite - John Williams
performed by the National Philharmonic conducted by Charles Gerhardt

I finished up my The Sea Hawk listen and when it came down to listening to another score this one was scream out my name! The sound is absolutely brilliant. Beats the pants off of the OST but I still prefer Kojian's recording which has a bit more thud to it. The NPO performs the shit out of this score unfortunately the trumpets took the day off. A lot of sour notes. That's really the only negative. The 45 minute playing time is perfect, the Han Solo and the Princess concert suite is one of only two available commercially (correct me if I'm wrong) and the arrangement of The Imperial March is by far the best I've ever heard. I wish all performances of Vader's Theme would begin with the Carbon Freeze version that segues into the familiar march. Brilliant!

NP: Tombstone - Bruce Broughton

Brilliant! The open track "The Cowboys" is raw and angry. It's a track that growls at you. The AWESOME contrabass sarrusophone and low trombones are perfectly captured by Armin Steiner. What a score!!!
