Indeed. Too bad it is so tremendously overlooked though.

    NP: Music by Joseph Conlan

I don't know if any of you guys have heard of this composer, he does a lot of TV movies. He has a website with many samples of his work and I must say they're very impressive IMO. I noticed his name in the credits of some film today (didn't catch the name) and thought I'd try and find some info on him. Here's the site:

Yes I did know. wink ( you also prefer Horner's as a listening experience, which, though I don't agree I can understand, and yes, I quite like that version too )

But I don't think Jordi did. wink

  3. "Book of Stars"
    Richard Gibbs

Someone was selling the CD for $5, so I couldn't pass it up, as I liked the clips from La-La Land Records.

The "Main Title" is sepscially wonderful and I guess haunting, though I can't think of the right word.
You can hear most, if not all of it, here:
    http://richardgibbsmusic.com/music.htm
Click the arrows until you get to it. There are other cues.

It's pretty obvious Gibbs background with Elfman in Oingo Boingo that he was influenced in the score, and there are a number of Elfman-isms in there, sometimes vaguely hinting at "Black Beauty".
I also get a strong feeling some of the scenes may have been temp tracked with a cue from Goldsmith's "First Contact".

If you got the money and like the clips, it's worth getting. If you are iffy on it, then find a used copy for sale.

Star Trek: Insurrection (complete) Jerry Goldsmith

You know what's fecking great about this action score? It's MELODIC. Action scores just aren't written like this anymore. I hope Giacchino has a similiar approach for his Trek score (I have faith in that guy he'll do the right thing wink).

Oh, I pray to God that Giacchino's score sound nothing like Insurrection.... with the Ba'ku theme as an exception. I hope Giacchino goes for the Cliff Eidelman/Horner sound.

NP:Kung Fu Panda (Zimmer And powell)

I heard something new in every listen.

I pray for the movie is not so bad like the trailer shows. I pray. This score with a movie like Happy Feet will be one of my favourite scores.

I love everything from it, I mess a little bit more of Zimmer, but it's one of Powell's finest scores. (Perhaps Zimmer had to leave to composer the dark knight? )

    Training Po is deliciously Chinese!!!!
    and

Oodgs ascends is one of the most touching beutiful tracks by Zimmer (?)

Raiders of the Lost Ark - Polydor Version

Haven't heard this one in eons, it's like a visit from an old friend, as this was one of my favorites right when I started collecting. Excellent all around, every track on here is a winner! I was very excited when I found it used over a decade ago. I'm just getting ready to see Indy IV and hear that score for the first time finally, I feel so behind.

    NP: Eragon - Patrick Doyle

IMHO this score is better than, or at least as good as, his Goblet of Fire score. Only if Doyle hadn't (as usual) repeated the main theme about 1000 times to make the whole album sound like a big "Eragon suite", this would've been a winner. But anyway, I give this score 4.5 stars out of five. Gorgeous main theme in "Saphira's First Flight", "Saphira's Return" and "Legend of Eragon", dark villainous music in "Ra'zac" and "Durza" and of course the amazing "Battle for Varden" are my favourites from this one.
  5. Eragon was much better than Potter, and I wouldn´t mind the repetitve theme work if he would just get rid of those cimbals for once. But Battle for Varden is without a doubt his best track since... well... a long time.

I listened to Kung Fu Panda. Quite an amusing score. I assume the film is a comedy - the most authentic-sounding Chinese music comes in the song at the end!

Moved on to Prince Caspian - probably not as good as I thought it was, now I've listened in a little more depth. Actually, it doesn't have any depth. Still enjoyable though.

Not too sure about that anymore, Yared's is a lot better than Horner's.

I'm guessing he'll go for the Giacchino sound with the odd reference and nod to past composers.

I can't warm up for the second score. But what mostly happens then, is that it's surprsingly good, causng my self conscience to die a little more. I had a period I really like this score but somehow it's just not so good as I remember. Yeah, the road to the climaxes is cool, but the action music of Molussos is tiresome. The piano side of the score is also not that interesting either.
