Hey, good luck with your new job Anthony! Try to play some inspiring music, like
NP The Tradition Of The Games (Basil Poledouris)
This piece can make those butterflies disappearAnything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

I'd just like to thank everyone - but especially Martijn (with his Brian Blessed call) - for the last four pages of this thread. It's been hilarious! I hope Erik was hamming up his dissatisfaction, and won't actually be leaving us.
NP: Nothing. Just giggling at that Brian Blessed crack.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

Yes, we must always thank Jordi. It's like free performance art in text, his new series of KUNG FU PANDA posts.
NP: THE CRIMSON PIRATE (Silva Swashbuckler themes)
The opening theme of William Alwyn's 'Crimson Pirate' is my favourite moment here. But with rivals like the Rozsa and Herrmann SINBAD scores, THE SEA HAWK and the main theme of CUTTHROAT ISLAND, there's a lot here to like.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

NP: Kingdom of Heaven Recording Sessions - HGW
Wow, this guy has a problem with copying and pasting his own work..."Swordplay" in this edition has the exact same melody as "Only the Beginning of the Adventure" from Narnia. I guess he thought since it didn't get used in KoH he could re-use it in another score...
This 2-hour score is mostly VERY good, howeverI love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to! -

We're talking the talking dolphin from "Seaquest DSV" kind of "genius". And most of it was Powell anyway. The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -

NP: Jetsons :the movie (Debney).
After Kung Fu Panda im in the right mood for Animation scores.
In the beggining I found Debney a very average composer, but with the years. his masterpieces and his personality in Ubeda... This man Rocks!!!
PS: Kung Fu Panda is the great Zimmer's comback to animation movies!!! You can't get anything better than this! -

Simply amazing.
I love how this score slowly develops its theme up to the end, when it bursts out in full... well... grace. -

Close Encounters of the Third Kind John Williams
It really doesn't bother me that we (probably) won't hear this kind of quality from Williams ever again. I'm just grateful we ever got these kinds of scores in the first place! -

NP: The Incredibles (Giacchino)
This really is a wonderful score album. There's all the bluster, but there's also great little Schifrinesque cues like 'Marital Rescue'.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

Well, it bothers me. I had high hopes for the Indy score, but it was certainly missing something that could have helped the movie get more positive reviews...
I agree on Close Encounters, of course. -

NP: The Hunchback of Notre Dame - Alan Menken
I'm in Animation score mood today also And what Menken score better than this? The mighty chorals of "Sanctuary!" give me the music-induced-goosebumps syndrome every time! -

Underrated composer?
I think he´s been in the A list for a long time. The guy that has composed "ID4", "Stargate", "Godzilla", "Last of the Dogmen"and five Bonds (special mention to "Casino Royale") CAN NOT be underrated, and he IS NOT underrated. And two big hits coming (the new Bond and Narnia 3).Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

I know you don't like to do this, but I can only suggest putting the tracks in film order:

Personally I can't get enough of this score, but I realise it's not his best. -

I see what you mean. Well as for me, it´s not my most played composer honestly, but he is certainly in my top ten. And when I think of action music, one of the first things that comes to my mind is the magnificent three: "Stargate" - "ID4" - "Godzilla". My first listen of the complete ID4 score is unforgettable.Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

If anything I'd say he's OVERRATED on this forum.

He's written four or five good scores (three for Emmerich, and his first and last Bonds), a couple of average ones and several awful ones and yet everyone on this forum praises him as if he's as good as Brahms. You have a strange definition of "underrated"! -

I knew I'd get my head bitten off for this remark, but I still stand by what I said. I think when he produces a good score, it's really good. So what if he produces crap as well? (Open for debate.) I just don't listen to them.
I'm listening to Korngold's Robin Hood if that makes you feel any better.
