I'm mid way through season two and I'd forgotten about brilliant villain Ronnie Stark. The straight expression on his face as he burns through that plastic bottle with the soldering iron before moving onto Jack is so incredibly sick and twisted. A shame that Jack didn't get to wail on him. Jack needs to wail on more people. sad

Ok. I left 24 some months ago. But yesterday I watched episode 19 and 20.

I will watch the last 3 episodes tonight, and I'm really exited because this season has been really briliant (Ok, i don't know if this is the best word for 24....).

The terrorist attack was well devoloped, the dramatic sequences had some really powerful moments, Jack bauer was more human and vulnerable, and the cast was amazing.

This season put some air to this show.

I think, apart from the first season being standout strong and the third being standout weak, all the rest have been pretty consistent. I've enjoyed it all.

I think season 4,5 and 6 was horrible, mediocre and insulting.

I wonder how you can watch 7 seasons of 24, and be bored with a such smart show as Lost is.

24 is unpretentious. Lost is extremely pretentious, but has no reason to be.

well, I think it's unpretentious too. You only have to be prepared for references and subtile jokes.

I think , anyway, Lost can be pretentious. You can watch 10 times and you always notice something new: influences, references, interpretations..

24 often takes itself too seriously and ends up coming across as stupid. I'm really enjoying season three at the moment because it actually starts poking fun at itself.

    I love season two!

If you leave off Kim's moments aside, it's the best 24 plot ever! And with the best moments of the whole show! (jack's interrogatory treating the terrorist's family )

    "shoot again now, Kim"

I think it almost always knows when it's being stupid, and doesn't mind. Lost on the other hand does stupid things (really, really, really stupid) and expects you to take them seriously - that's my problem with it. I still watch it though, so it's not like I hate it!

I enjoyed season two on the first few viewings, but when I watched it the other week I found it incredibly tedious and boring.

Likewise I never enjoyed season three that much..until now.

CTU finally feels like a big Government agency rather than Jack and a bunch of clueless other agents. I loved how Tony and a team converge on the shopping mall where Kyle Singer is, as well as Jack and a whole other convoy head there as well.

The gunfights are also some of the best - Jack using one of Nina's flunkys as a shield while taking out two other guys who are firing at him for example. cool

If 24 adopted the ironic comedy of the Die Hard movies then it would be so much better.

I agree Lost has gotten silly, but not in the same way. Care to give some examples of where you think it has issues Southall?

I have the memory of a fish so I can't think of any, but far too often it seems to have a character doing something which is totally out-of-keeping with how they usually behave, just so there can be a "twist" - that's just poor storytelling. I'll have to look at a few episode synopses to try to jog my memory.

Of course, there's the polar bear.

I normally stay out of 24 vs Lost confrontations, enjoying them both equally (though Lost is better, qualitatively of course wink), but you must be talking about 24 here, right? Like, the last eight episodes? Surely this is the top series when it comes down to characters behaving out of character? Or rather: radically & abruptly changing a character for the sake of the twist. And then not following up on the character anymore.
