No, it's based on the idea that it's totally different than that of Zimmer who btw carries a very distinct and unmistakable sound in BB. Can't you hear it? The huge difference in all musical aspects between Zimmer cues and JNH's? It'll get very retarded if you actually say no.
I wrote this a while back
I do know that once the sound scheme templates are agreed between the two composer, it's not hard to replicate it.

I wish I could, but there is none where I live. This and the 3D situation around here is FRUSTRATING, and I don´t see that changing before Cameron´s Avatar... I can only imagine how Beowulf must have looked, even the 2D version was great to look at... and the fight in the Ministry of Magic at the end of the last Potter must have been awesome in 3D... -

Wow, project much? I meant that the fact I had to write that a director DIRECTS and a composer COMPOSES is kinda sad.
Well, we aren't two year olds here. We know the difference. A comment like your comes off a bit... well, arrogant... pretentious.

Ehm, definitely not wanting to start a personal debate here, Erik, just thought it helpful to mention that you tend to come about as riding high horses yourself from time to time, so let´s calm down everyone. I know I´ve been a kick in some peoples´ arses myself recently, but this discussion has seen too many outbreaks of verbal violence already, and the score hasn´t even come out yet. -

Indeed. And as I just posted on another board, I feel that criticizing an album and score like THE DARK KNIGHT without hearing the music in the context of the film is an exercise in futility. You can certainly comment on how the music functions as stand-alone music, and all that, but you can't apply MEANING to it without the context for which it was composed.I consider a project a success when Thor says he won't buy it -

I don't disagree and there are times I have to step back and even at times delete posts before submitting because something I might write could come off as snobby. But to come to a film music board and start lecturing us on the basics of film making or the basics of the director/composer relationship and assuming that none of us has an clue how this thing we LOVE called film music works is ridiculous, insulting and unnecessary.
On the other hand, I do like having a person like Dan around. He gives us all rare glimpses into film scores, the process, recording sessions and whatnot and also is full of very valuable inside information concerning the art form that we all love. But a little deflation of the ego might not be such a bad idea... and I should do that same.

How more I listen TDK more I love it. I hated batman begins, but TDK is a winner! (always playing the game of Zimmer's own vision).
If you look carefully, only 10 minutes / 4 tracks are drone or boring ( and even they can be a good experience, because they are perturbing as the characters are ) The rest are loong set pieces!
Newton howard is more present, there are more action, more epic, more themes, more orchestra....
A great mix of dissonant (has anyone said tyler's Bug? ), sound dessing, action, drama, sound design, orchestral power...
brilliant! as the movie is!
" A dark Knight" for one of the best Zimmer's tracks! -

I guess that's what makes the argument even more amusing; people are bitching about a score that they haven't heard even legitimately on CD, let alone in the context of the film. But I suppose the amazing audio quality of YouTube clips is enough to wager opinion.I consider a project a success when Thor says he won't buy it -

Dan, I'm eager to see your review on TDK score and how it stacks up to BB. Particularly in how the score works on CD and in the context of the film.
... I'm not kidding, seriously. I'm tired of all this arguing about how the score will supposedly work, so again, why don't we just close it until July 15th? The last few pages of the thread have gotten really nasty and vitrolic, but honestly... some civility would be appreciated.http://unsungfilmscores.blogspot.com/ -- My film/TV/game score review blog -

I think we have seen it all. Unconditioned love, fanboy´s reactions, passionate defending, aggressive thinking and questioning, denial and acceptance, ripping apart beliefs and foundations, and a bit of bullshit in between. If nothing else, this score really evokes everything that´s human, and I expect nothing less from a score by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard, regardless of how they achieve it.

it only happens when the scores are not so clearly brilliant like is The Dark Knight
About the bootleg thing....I consider I sign of love make whatever you can to listen the "new" score of your favourite composer. Am I not a true love fan?
I always buy the scores I love!!!!

Dan , I guess you are doing the first listen in Soundtrack.net or so, Do you know what theme is the tune played in , for example, " A dark Knight" in 12:50 to 14 ? or in the beggining of "im not a hero".
thanks -

I'm not reviewing it; Mike Brennan is.

We're not doing a "First Listen", since sound clips are readily available, as well as bootleg copies of the album.
That theme is a secondary one used for Batman, if memory serves. I need to see the film again now that I've gotten a chance to listen to the soundtrack.I consider a project a success when Thor says he won't buy it -

Lower your parade, there's an audio cd rip circulating around it's just that the last track is problematic. It's no Youtube rip.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Yes! I want the track 14 without "beeps". What the F_ck!!!! I want to hear the new batman's motif with horns and real percusion like it seems be played at the end of "A Dark Knight" !!!! I'm desesperate. Anyway, I did the preorder in Amazon some days ago.
Why so themes for batman anyway? 2 notes motif, the noble theme, the 2 main themes in the end credits from the first film , and no...another one! (Yeah..someone very ironically will say it's because they are trying to do something close to Elfman's main theme
)
