I wonder if perhaps one reason I feel the TDK soundtrack is both overrated and boring is that I have not seen the film, was not in any way involved in the hype leading up to the film's release, etc. Having just listened to my second TDK album, the 'Bonus Digital Release,' I can say I am still not in any way impressed with the score, with the possible exception of the some of duo's ingenious uses of instruments. The score is just way too forgettable; about the only thing I can actually remember and hum from it is the two chords played often by horns and backed by synthesizers... Two chords, not even much of a real melody. I mean, I can recognize some music from the score if I hear it, but then again, I can also recognize most other scores I own. I find it quite hilarious that, while in the general populace's eyes movie scores are 'boring, background music,' they have chosen to champion what is possibly one of the most boring scores I've ever heard! Even I get bored by The Dark Knight, because that's what I feel it is: boring. However, scores like the Indiana Jones scores, Stargate, Hook, the Star Wars scores, Jurassic Park, Van Helsing, etc. are all 'boring' in their eyes. How hypocritical. -

I think that seeing the film makes a BIG difference to the score. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Are you saying that's a good thing, or a bad thing? Do you mean that seeing the film makes one finally realize the genius of the score, or are you saying that seeing the film makes one falsely think the score is the greatest thing ever, even if it's really not that good? Because I've heard plenty of scores that I've bought simply for listening enjoyment, and they have not failed to provide a good aural experience. But with The Dark Knight, I have also not seen the film, and I hear almost nothing that stands out as good, memorable music. I like scores that can stand on their own. Many a time have I listened to a score without seeing the film, then been driven to see the film simply because of how enjoyable the score was (e.g. Stargate, whose theme is so grand I just couldn't pass up renting it). With The Dark Knight, however, this is not the case. -

Bit of a false dichotomy there.
I think Alan is merely saying watching the film allows you to appreciate the score a bit more. Some parts are actually very well used in my opinion (most notably the Joker's music/sounds). But this is a discussion that has been trodden on many a time... -

Sorry, I mean that seeing the movie greatly increases my appreciation of the music. It's not - for me at least - a genius score. But the music certainly adds to the on-screen visuals - and having a sense of what's happening in the movie helps appreciate the music as a stand-alone listen. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Hmmm... Alright. I mean, I still planning on seeing the film just to see the film, but I love when a score is enjoyed because it has great, memorable music, rather than just because its the score to an extremely hyped-up film. And if one says that it's great because, 'It fits the film well,' there are plenty of scores out there that fit their films just as well, contain enjoyable stand-alone musical experiences, and are not recognized as being great simply because they do not accompany films as largely hyped as The Dark Knight. -

This score has some cues that have great standalone value on their own. Don't worry.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Perhaps for you. Or perhaps you're right, and I'm just feeling this way because I just came off listening to the 'Bonus Digital Release' and haven't checked out the OST for quite some time. IDK. -

Well, the bonus 2 disc version isn't the exactly the best of listening experiences. Watch the movie, then listen to the official, regular release and concentrate on the pieces you like. It'll be much better.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

In my opinion it is a score which works better in the film, but takes a few listens to get used to on CD. Some nice material on here though - Why So Serious has a very interesting soundscape for the Joker and Harvey Dent's theme is lovely. Action tracks like Aggressive Expansion and Like A Dog Chasing Cars are fun too. If you liked electronics-based Zimmer scores and Batman Begins, I recommend you to go ahead. -

Give it a break, Sunil, people are answering to you, no to mention the 37 pages of such opinions, what else do you want?
See the movie; if you like bombastic, large-scale power anthems in the usual Zimmer style amidst filler electronic-heavy drone especially as used in the movie, you'll love this score on CD; it has some good themes and it's basically an enhancement and a development of the first one. If you're not into the "heavy" Zimmer sound though, then that's probably not for you.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Thank you very much for your ill remarks. Anyhow, i should haven't asked this question here. I thought this forum would be friendly forum. Since the day i have joined on this forum, you are always in the mood of discouraging me. This is not at all good. If you don't know how to encourage others, just leave it. Why do you get tensed? In first place, if you say i am a lazy fellow, why do you bother on comment?Racism, Prejudices and discrimination exists everywhere. -

Grow a set, Sunil. You're ever so sensitive. You pulled this same BS at filmtracks and look where that got you. Just make a little EFFORT on YOUR OWN and you'll find your answers.
