  1. NP: Doctor Who - Carey Blyton

I came across some short suites composed by Blyton and based upon his incidental music for 3 very early Doctor Who stories: Death To The Daleks (1974) which is arranged for 4 saxophones, The Revenge of The Cyberman (1975) and The Silurians (1970) (both piano & brass). A BIG difference from Murray Gold's orchestral rollercoasters!

Possibly not, Tim. But, at least it's not the atrocious synth "plinky-plonky" stuff that marred many an episode.

There are some illustrative clips here: tracks 14-22.

Reminds me of something you'd hear in an Ivor The Engine-Clangers combo!

    I would wager it's Giacchino's Trek.

Wanna bet Jordi? If I win you don't play any Hans Zimmer at all until February, if you win I don't play any John Barry at all until February.

Thanks Alan, it's definitely not my thing but yes, it is a step or ten up from the 'plinky-plonky' synth stuff.

NP: Adventures Of Superman - David Chudnow

Chudnow composed some damn fine music for the 1950s Superman TV series.
Great dramatic pieces in this offering that are as good as any golden age movie score.

    Was this officially released?

I remember talk with Anthony (or it was bregt?) who said to me he didn't like very much Goldsmith.

But for the scores he played I think it's Goldsmith tongue

  5. Monsignor (John Williams)

Another Williams' entry I ignored for so long but I've managed to get the 2007 Intrada release. I got interested in it by reading the comments on this board. The main theme is another good one in that old-school (but great) memorable era kind of style. Some good cues here and there but 'Gloria' is an acquired taste, because it sounds so (intentionally) different from the rest of the album (must be for a poignant scene). I can't say I'll ever put Monsignor near any of his most established works, but the music on offer is enough to warrant such a release and I'm glad I've gotten this little and rarely mentioned work.
