I'm guilty of using acronyms myself but stopped doing it when I realised how annoying it was to me when I read others doing it.

I seriously hate the usage of acronyms, it's just lazy.

    You mean ISHTUOA, IJL.

Perhaps we should start using that to people who use acronyms. Sooner or later they'll understand how annoying it is to see an acronym that one doesn't know what means.

I listened to Harline's Pickup on South Street last night. The quintessential film noir score IMO.

    My first listen ...
The opening track 'Whirlpool' kicks you right in da' face ...
I'm curious if the rest is like that ...

KNIGHT AND DAY | john powell

    Fun! cool

Powell in standard mode really, but the joy is everywhere. From the nervous guitar and rhythm playing in Hostage, to a set of super cool action pieces. Not as 'refined' as Mr & Mrs Smith, but in the same genre Powell is one of the most interesting.

NP: Door in the Floor (Marcelo Zarvos)

Incredibly simple score, coming down to a basic progress that we here dozens of times. And yet it works for me, bringing back the story nicely. (If you haven't seen the film, it may just get boring.)

Lovely little romantic, sentimental gem; i've seen the movie after i've heard the score which i really really loved, so what you say might indeed apply to most of the cases, but not with people passionate for such music, like me smile

    JP: KRULL - James Horner

Very happy with my blind purchase based upon the Krull hype. After listening disc 1 last week, I heard a fine Horner score but didn't understand the incredibly enthusiastic comments, crediting it to the difficult availability which often raises the status of a score.

Disc 2 certainly clarifies it, though, showing an energetic Horner you rarely hear nowadays. In fact, it seems he simply stopped putting such a raw energy and frantic agressiveness in his music, while the themes are more romantically lush in an old fashioned way. He's a lot more restrained these days (which some people may call 'more mature').

I don't see it as the masterpiece some people make it out to be, but it's entertaining as hell in a way I haven't heard in quite a while!

I made my own edited version where I've cut out all the 'horror' and tenser moments, retaining all the action/adventure heroic parts, coming to just over 50 minutes. Until editing it, I'd never really enjoyed this one as much as others... but having cut out the parts I don't like, it's near-perfect (perfect being Wrath of Khan).

Anyone else think this is an underrated score by Williams? It's certainly not mentioned often. Either way, this is a wonderful score.

This one is a sure regular in my Williams rotation. I first experienced the music when I saw it on the big screen and went and bought the disc right after. The film is top notch too.
