I'm just becoming more and more and more impressed with works such as Tripartita!!! If he had concentrated his life on composing concert material he would be considered with Copland, Vaughan Williams, Sibelius, and Shostakovich in 20th Century Music.listen to more classical music! -

Not all of it, much like Mozart's.
They're two different composers from two different periods. I'm not nearly as much a fan of the Classical era as I am of the Romantic era. Although it goes without saying there wouldn't be a Romantic period had it not been for composers such as Mozart.
For me, Romantic music sets the orchestra free. -

I think that is a valid point, regarding the orchestration. Romantic composers noticed that you can evoke emotions also through ARRANGEMENT rather than purely scale and melody.http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

Yeah, but there's stuff written by Bach or Mondeverdi or even Handel (for example) which are AS (and some times even MORE) musically free and broad than any work written in the romantic era. Listen to Handel's opera "Cesare in Egitto" for instance; the dramatic orchestral parts, the sweeping themes and Cleopatra's laments.
And It was written in 1724...
Classical music or classical IN music, is NOT limited to Mozart whatsoever.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Steven if you forced yourself to only listen to Mozart for an entire month at the end of that time you'd appreciate him a lot more.

Bach musically free?
He writes music as tight as a mathematician! (I love Bach, by the way).
But you guys know what Steven means: he just prefers the Romantics.
Generally, so do I, though I'll take Handel or Bach over most of 'em any day.'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Well, free as letting the musicians improvise the hell of a show off and ruin the piece? No; You have early Italian Opera and Jazz for that.
Neither Romantic era does that.
But there's so much emotion in humanity in Bach's music; listen to "air on the G string" for example. Or the famous cello sonata appearing in the Soloist's trailer and whose title i now forget. He's considered the father of western music and that's not undeserved.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

NP: Slavonic Dances (Op 72) - Antonin Dvorak
Hotdiggitydang! Good stuff!
Just the kind of Romantic energy and sentiment (wildly imbued with nationalistic elements) I love.'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

NP: Slavonic Dances (Op 46 this time) - Antonin Dvorak
Man, I can't get enough of this!
Especially dance no. 7 (which is featured in the 1977 Italian cult animation(ish) film Allegro Ma Non Troppo, which -not too coincidentally- is where I found out about these works in the first place) really takes my biscuit!
Fantastic stuff. Wonderful themes. Chocfull of energy.

Cantata for 5 instruments, female chorus, mezzo-soprano and tenor by Igor Stravinsky
Beautiful, very orientally flavoured music with such warm, espressivo flute and obo solos. Great singers as well, conducted by Robert Craft for Naxos. The opening of the first movement is absolutely breathtaking -

Not that old, a few years. He also did the 'Heroes' Symphony also based on a Bowie album. In fact I think both were eventually released on one album? It's well worthwhile. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

NP : ARE YOU EXPERIENCED - The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Brilliant! The word Hendrix and genius truly go together.
Eric Clapton recounts a story where he realised he wasn't guitar god anymore after hearing Jimi play live for the first time, he says he tried over and over again to light a cigarette but couldn't because his hands were shaking too much.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt
