    Me too Tom.

I just bought this version on Chandos and it includes Brazilian Impressions which I have never heard.

Not impressive IMO Tom and a totally unecessary addition to the classic work. Someone like John Williams or James Horner or Elliot Goldenthal ( or indeed my fave David Bedford ) would have been perfect for composing a companion piece such as Pluto though I doubt any composer of great stature would want to have their piece compared with an establised work of greatness.

I'm still interested to hear William's, or indeed anyone else who may have heard the piece view!?

Well, as we now know that Pluto is not a planet, the addition is also in a way hilariously wrong. Holst was right about the number of planets when he wrote the work.

NP: Mahler: Symphony No. 1 (with "Blumine") - Gustav Mahler (Florida Philharmonic Orchestra & James Judd)

A very good recording by an orchestra which is apparently (and sadly) no more; it was disbanded. slant

    Listened to last night...

    Cyril Morin - Western Pansori

I was checking some samples on Morin's website and came across a cool James Bond-ian cue from this album and it was a must buy after that.
Some parts are perfect for a modern Bond score. Other cues have Indian vocals (Vidya Rao) and are from his standard ethnic template-- a gorgeous string section and powerful ethnic vocals over it. There's also some electro/synth stuff to round up the album. Cool!

Never heard of him but you've piqued my interest.

Morin is awesome when he's not in bleak underscore mode.

There are full length samples from his website. Just go to www.cyrilmorin.com and click on Audio and play Superkids for the Bond-styled cue.

Debussy is an incredibly influential composer, I can hear his voice in many, many film scores.

NP: Mahler, Symphony No.9: Bruno Walter, Wiener Philharmoniker - Gustav Mahler (Bruno Walter, Wiener Philharmoniker)

Recorded way back in 1938. cool Not the best recording of course, but still a priceless Mahler interpretation by a man who knew the composer quite well.
