NP: Mahler: Symphony No. 9 - Gustav Mahler (Kurt Sanderling)
Excellent playing by the Philharmonia, save for the lousy trumpet notes which sound no better than an average high schooler.
But the horns rock, so it somewhat balances out.

NP: MGV - Michael Nyman
Over the years I've listened to this far more often than The Piano Concerto (preferring the OST). "5th Region" is such a great track and I always think that Nyman's string lines here are gorgeous.
And when the brass kick's in as well...
MGV, along with Water Dances from his album The Kiss are my two favourite Nyman works, exhilarating stuff worth playing VERY LOUD!On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

Fantastic work! The exposition of the first movement must be the single greatest architected climax in the romantic reportory! The opening harp and viola figures are outstanding. -

NP : JAZZ MASTERS 13 - Antonio Carlos Jobim
Apart from Desafinado there's none of his other more popular works on this album such as One Note Samba and the immortal Girl From Ipanema, despite this, this is a fantastic feel good sunny weather ( which it is here
) bossa nova album.....makes me feel like sipping an exotic cocktail while watching exotic girls on an exotic beach down Brazil way.

Such a damn fine album by a woman with heaps of talent but seamingly hell-bent on destruction. Having stood next to her ( at Glasto ) I find it amazing that such a voice comes out of such a tiny woman. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

A good friend of mine was involved in this, I'd be interested to hear any opinions?
NP : POP FICTION : NEW CRIME JAZZ - Various Artists
Grantby's Timber appears on this compilation too, fabulous stuff, kind of like a tripped out sci-fi detective movie soundtrack. Possibly the only two contributions by names you've heard of are Portishead and Barry Adamson. A favourite album of mine that always goes down well with friends when I've invited them over.
I think a lot of people on this board would love this album, I'd heartily recommend it to Martijn and Lee ( LSH ) in particular. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

As it states "new" I'm guessing it's NOT another same old tired complation of Ironsides, Peter Gunns and I Spys, is it?'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn
