    NP:Speed Racer (Giacchino)

A perfect fusion of styles and the two main themes (the original title theme and Giacchino's own theme).

    Colorful, modern, exotic, exhiting...

    I love it!

    PS:not for listen everyday, thought.

    NP:13th warrior rejected (revell)

Hard to believe it's from the same movie wich Goldsmith scored.

It's a good background listening, with some interesting moments.

there is one track with lisa gerrard pretty similar to Rome is the light from more music from gladiator. Curios...

Probably , by far, Revell's best score to date

Antony and Cleopatra, but I agree, gorgeous music. I´ve discovered John Scott very late, but what a great composer he is.

Try "Becoming Collette", "King of the Wind", "Shogun Mayeda", "The Scarlet Tunic" or "The North Star". You won´t regret.

One of his best scores ever IMO, with lovely themes and powerful action material.

    Jon Brion - Magnolia

Whoah! Just finished two listens of this. Totally love it! Dark and dramatic. Orchestral fury!
I must check out other works of Brion. Any suggestions?
  7. There are none truly like the more involved parts of MAGNOLIA. Mostly his film work has had a more quirky / eccentric sound to it, with the texture more like instrumental pop than orchestral. I do quite like PUNCHDRUNK LOVE of the others, but it is - again - a very different sound to MAG.

Love it too; he's one of those composers with a very distinct musical character.

It's quite possibly one of the best scores he's ever written and a very damn good score in general; but i wouldn't place it above RED PLANET.

n.p. STEPHEN WARBECK - Charlotte Gray

A very nice blend of dramatic orchestral material, led by woodwinds and with the distinct British subtlety in the orchestration and arrangements. Not getting too serious, too melodramatic or dense but by being elegant and restrained, it dresses the movie ably.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  8. CHARLOTTE GRAY is underrated, I think. It's my favourite Warbeck score.

First listen. How could've I missed this? Listened to only 5 tracks so far and it's already growing on me. The string work in the "Largo Winch" track is especially great. Lea's theme is beautiful!

Just comes down to personal taste. I'm well aware this might not float everyones boat but for me it's a fabulously moody and atmospheric score in the best possible way, I can enjoy the tones and textures of this very subtle score. ( except the theme of course which is excellent and anything but subtle wink )

I think the mini-series had some good music, I don't think Gibbs' style differs that much from McCreary. And Gibbs wrote the theme for Six, which isn't found on any of the season albums but features prominently in the show.

I actually ordered all BSG soundtracks (but not delivered yet), and I don't hardly ever buy new stuff coming out, that shows you how much I liked the music from the show.

    Hero (Tan Dun)

Taiko drum percussion and violin solo melodies go hand in hand, but despite the repetitive nature of the soundtrack due to the lack of themes, the music is stunningly performed and at times truly gorgeous. It accompanies the visuals like a glove and works quite well on album too. When violin, choir and percussion come together it creates a musical landscape that I'm quite fond of, one of sadness and elegance.
