I was playing: Young Sherlock Holmes (Broughton)

The movie and the main theme has a real nostalgic feeling to me. But the rest of the score it's too...reptitive.

I love some tracks here. The kind of the score to choose when you make your own playlist.

    NP:Angels and demons (Zimmer)

I must be the only one who likes the suspense and the over synthetic " God Particle". Am I?

Giovanni Paolo II - Marco Frisina

A beautiful score that sometimes tends to be a bit monothematic but that theme is so majestic it gives me goosebumps every time it shows up. The choral writing is another gem in the score. I really wonder what Angels and demons could have been had Frisina written the score - of course since he is a Catholic priest and musical director of the Vatican this fictional project might have been a bit problematic... smile

What a GREAT album, I can only think that I played 'something else' before because I just can't figure why I would have dismissed this so casually? Anyway, this'll be getting plenty more plays from me in the future cool

I've not seen the film but I think I might owe you and Martijn a bit of an apology for saying it was crap some time ago. I just wonder what album I confused this with? Regardless, I'm happy to "rediscover" this cool

    NP: John Barry The Collection

This is a 4 disk compilation of John Barry music. So far I'm only on the first disk, but I'm enjoying it a lot. And to my surprise, I recognized the Born Free theme from Madagascar. I wonder why they chose to use a preexisting John Barry theme when Hans Zimmer could have composed his own?

NP: Batman: Gotham Knight - Drake, Kral & Manthei

I really appreciate the scoring of this animated film.
Considering most of it is synthetic it sounds very close to a real orchestra.
After seeing the DVD I see how well the music fitted the scenes.
The end title suite is powerhouse Batman music that I just adore! cool

NP:The Crow city of Angels (Revell)

    What about that?
  3. Battlestar Galactica (Richard Gibbs)

I like the overall sound in this score, there are some moody tracks that accompany the character scenes very well, such as the cool sound of the cylon character Six in 'Goodbye, Baby' and 'The Sense of Six', a romantic interlude in 'To Kiss or Not to Kiss', or the very elegaic and haunting 'The Storm and the Dead'. What I like over McCreary's first season music is the more interesting atmospheric approach and less percussive action cues which become tiring after a while. I think Gibbs really created a cool sounding score for the mini-series, but as we all know Bear McCreary is the one who will be ultimately remembered as the creator of the sound of BSG. But what Gibbs wrote shouldn't be easily dismissed.

Haven't seen the film but could it be something to do with it's iconic status? It's a gorgeous theme.

Sydney: A Story of a City Christopher Gordon

Ironically enough this (and Gordon's Melbourne commonwealth music) will always remind me of San Fransisco.

Both of them get a big personal rating of 5 stars from me.

Madagascar is the laziest, most inexcusable excuse for a film score I have ever heard. It is a truly shameful exercise from so-called "professionals", lamely stringing-together a whole roster of previous scores - some credited, some not - for allegedly "amusing" effect. It is an absolute abomination.
