    NP: John Barry The Collection

This is a 4 disk compilation of John Barry music. So far I'm only on the first disk, but I'm enjoying it a lot. And to my surprise, I recognized the Born Free theme from Madagascar. I wonder why they chose to use a preexisting John Barry theme when Hans Zimmer could have composed his own?

Born Free > lions > Madagascar

There are no Lions in Madagascar.....if I'm missing something please note that I've never seen the film wink

As in the film 'Madagascar', not the place.

So the film doesn't take place in Madagascar?

I've just spent most of the Blue Max looking for this score, it didn't help that, a) There's no writing on the CD spine of this Japanese release and b) Last time I played it I didn't put it back in the rack with Poledouris scores rolleyes shame

Anyway, what a gorgeous score, full of ethnic flourishes such as Teiko drumming and exotic melody with a beautiful song starting the whole score off. This, if I'm not mistaken was Basil's second to last score. sad

    MARK ISHAM - crossing over

Final 2 tracks are pleasantly on the more intimate, passionate and beautiful side of the composer as we've heard it during the last 2 years.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

Actually, the main character is a lion.

Wow, I'm feeling really stupid now... since just a few days ago I checked out the film Born Free from the library. I haven't watched it yet.

Haven't seen it and I won't go out of my way to watch it either, there's just too many films I haven't seen and want to see out there.

MICHAEL GIACCHINO - lost season 4

The differende in pathos and emotion throughout the whole of season 4 (which echoes to its music, naturally) is striking and at places violently different than the mediocrity and off-beat nature of season 5. If released, the latter is something i am definitely not eager to get.

    NP: Hook - John Williams

This is one of "Let's bring my memories back" scores*. I remember most of the prominent themes (especially Captain Hook's), but I don't remember Banning Back Home at all! Was there such a jazzy cue in the movie? I must watch it again..

Anyway This is a great score indeed. It's what represents Hollywood fantasy music! punk

    * Others are Casper, Home Alone, White Fang, 101 Dalmatians (both animated and live-action), etc... Homeward Bound is the most wanted of all but not available right now cry

NP: Spirit: Stallion Of The Cimarron (expanded) - Hans Zimmer

Man, Train Escape is a kickass action cue! I wish it was available in better quality. But otherwise this is a 4.5 star score. Run Free is one of the best tracks ever composed by Zimmer!

Sadly, this is yet another good score overshadowed by songs. I hope for a complete score release someday.

Good score, nice songs, they make for a very pleasant listening experience overall, on CD.

I am going to watch ANGELS AND DEMONS tonight on the cinema, i hope i don't regret it;)

NP: MIKLOS ROZSA COMPILATION. This is a release from Silva and offers the listener a nice selection from his epic scores such as El Cid, King of Kings, Ben Hur, Quo Vadis, and Madame Bovary among others. Overall it is a nice compilation, one that I would recommend to the casual listener of Rozsa. He certainly has his sound, unlike some of the modern composers.

NP: Angels & Demons - Hans Zimmer

It is the quieter, violin-based tracks I like better here, like Science And Religion, Election By Adoration and 503. The apocalyptic choir material in 160 BPM, Fire and Immolation is great too. I'm looking forward to watch the movie and hear how it plays there. But a great score for sure!
