NP : THE BLUE MAX - Jerry Goldsmith
Magnificent score.
NP : THE TOUCH - Basil Poledouris
I've just spent most of the Blue Max looking for this score, it didn't help that, a) There's no writing on the CD spine of this Japanese release and b) Last time I played it I didn't put it back in the rack with Poledouris scores
Anyway, what a gorgeous score, full of ethnic flourishes such as Teiko drumming and exotic melody with a beautiful song starting the whole score off. This, if I'm not mistaken was Basil's second to last score.
I just had to play this again....
NP : THE TOUCH - Basil Poledouris
Apart from one or two people here who I know have this and enjoy it is there anyone else? Such a damn good score.
NP : THE TOUCH - Basil Poledouris
Three times in two days?! Turns out Melanie was really enjoying hearing this yesterday but has only just asked me what it was and would I play it again?
Happy to oblige

I heard thi score only two times when it was realeased.
Now that I have United 93 a little bit out of my head and no a new powell score t listen, it's time for a re-listening.
It's a most melodic and pop oriented version of united 93. good. -

Me, but I don't own a copy yet. From time-to-time I'll head over to Basil's site and play the three or four full cues up. I LOVE it. I know technically it's been released, but it's overseas and often rare and too pricey. That's why I would hope some label, Mikael's label, Intrada -- whomever -- would release it in a limited edition here in the U.S.A. so it can be obtained at a better price and who knows -- maybe even expanded or completed. The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -

Can understand that. I enjoy it as a typical Giacchino action score, but it doesn't really give me an epic sci-fi feeling I was hoping for. Bit of a misfire from Giacchino dare I say?
A good score. Though unfortunately not a great Trek score. -

Well, since the movie clearly is a cool teenage-aimed Transformers-like ride and definitely not a great Star Trek movie, i'd not expect Giacchino to come up with a grand awe-inspiring sci-fi STAR TREK score.

Well...I enjoyed very much my first listen. It's dark and agressive. Perfect for the movie.
As Wanted, T:Salvation has Elfman's voice but taking some ideas from other compoers ("Fresside" anyone?) .Otherwise, the main theme is not very dinamic or fresh, even if it tries to be coherent with Fiedel an Beltrami's ones.
What it's ironic is I thought Beltrami was a light copy of Elfman, and Now Elfman seems a copy of Beltrami.
NP:Terminator-Salvation (Elfman)
Since "Wanted" and "helboy 2" this guy is cool.

I know, is there some kind of secret early-release program that certain MT members get to be part of?

If Giacchino's only as good as the film he's working on, then he's a lesser composer than I've given him credit for.

Even though Giacchino's score does elevate the level of action, there were plenty of visuals in that movie to create something a little more "sci-fi" sounding. We've already got an action score from Giacchino, and I was hoping for a proper sci-fi score.

Was Playing: Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets - John Williams & William Ross
Dueling The Basilisk =

NP: Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire - Patrick Doyle
Doyle's drawback here is that his music sounds a little disjointed on CD unlike the movie where it flows quite coherently. He went on a cymbal overdrive here too. But otherwise this is a fantastic score. Harry In Winter theme is really lovely. -
